Re: Sexist Adverts
There's this idiotic add on some Dutch channels, I could find a Portuguese language version online:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxX9_7dQRN8"]YouTube - LOVE CALCULATOR - CLUBE JAMBA[/ame]
I don't know Portuguese, but the Dutch version goes like this:
<girl and guy standing at a bar>
Comment voice: "Do you make a good couple? If you want to find out, text HIS-NAME HER-NAME LOVE ON to ####."
<girl does that, getting only 9% love prediction>
<disgruntled girl throws her drink in boy's face>
Comment voice: "Sorry guys, love isn't always easy!"
This cellphone app is from Jamba, the same company that adverts all those annoying ringtones (at least in the Netherlands).

Re: Sexist Adverts
As well as the slap to the face and kick to the groin, throwing a drink in a man's face is part of the staple diet on tv and movies nowadays.
Of course throwing a drink in a man's face is almost always unjustified, and one of women's primary means of publically humiliating a man.The wicked flee when none pursueth. Proverbs 28:1

Re: Sexist Adverts
"" Yes, but when folk start writing to companies and demanding control of their advertisments content it gets a bit much I think..""
here in the state of Australia where I live NSW it is not the companies that define the content advertisements rather a sort of a committee the NSW Advertising Standards Board
this board will give the nod to all advertising that portrays men as nincompoops - complaints about the caricature of men as fools and clumsy buffoons saved by savant wimyn are ignored
however no advertisments representing wimyn as idiots or incompetants are sanctioned for public viewing
eg a mens group had an advertising agency create an advertisment that represented a scene where a little girl with her teddy bear came out to investigate and probably complain why Momma's wild party had woken her; Momma angrily told her little girl to go back to bed - no cuddles or kisses for this little party pooper !1
but Mommas are supposed to be nurturing caring souls
the ad never was permitted for public viewing and I only saw that bit as part of a fathers action group that operates in NSW
I don't think the WEL ( Wimyns Electoral Lobby) would support any candidature to the Board that represented wimyn in any other way other than as ones in control of men and situations; only glorification and adulation and boosterism of wimyn is sanctioned in australia
so you see FFFF all is not as it seems

Re: Sexist Adverts
This is where all the eloquent and passionate debate grinds to a shuddering halt.
Unlike the abundance of state and private sponsorship for feminism, proponents of the mens movement have to rely primarily on their own funding to make the limited political inroads.
Funding is key, and I believe if the mens movement had even a fraction of the monies feminism receives - we'd see a notable mobilization towards changing the political landscape irrevocably.
For example, apart from when an underfunded group takes up arms to give voice to their cause, when do you ever see such a group attain much success against something which is essentially bankrolled by the state?
The success of politicians since time immemorial has had a direct correlation to the amount spent on campaigning and spin (as well as the publics gullibility of course). Feminism is no different, and by the same token the success of the men's movement in countering this will be inextricably linked to successfully securing sufficient funding.Last edited by Celtic Druid; 21st-October-2009 at 02:11 AM.

Re: sexist advert
Period pain advert
Advert associating the ridding of period pain with that of a troublesome man.
Click link for video.
http://www.visit4info.com/advert/Pai...ct-Range/78799
Below description for folk who can't view or hear videos.
Advert shows a sexist stereotype of a man slovenly sat on a sofa totally immersed in a tv show, while his girlfriend looks on in frustration as she is not the centre of attention. She then reaches down the side of the sofa and pulls a lever, to which the 'offending' male is ejected out of his seat and through the window.
A female voice then says "If only getting rid of all pains could be as fast as new feminax express." In the distance the man can then be seen dropping from a tree, whereby the woman stretches out on the sofa with a look of smug contentment.Last edited by Celtic Druid; 10th-January-2010 at 08:17 PM.

Re: sexist advert
This is proof that although misandry is mainstream, it's specifically aimed at women, the product is proof of this. If we can just figure out the connection between a woman witnessing a man go through pain, being ridiculed, mocked, to the woman parting with her money for a product, we'd be onto something.
I can only speak for myself, but I want details, what the product does, why I should part with my money, why I should choose that product over it's competitors, if I get that, I might part with my cash, but if all I'm seeing is a woman being ridiculed or hurt, and then shown a brief photo of the product, that just doesn't blow my skirt up enough to make me want to part with my cash, so why does it work with women?Hugh & Mary Discuss Feminist Related Issues (ALL SUBTITLED): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...0081D259987DCD

Re: sexist advert
Maybe Durex should do an advert whereby a father raids the CSA headquarters and machine guns all the staff in there before blowing the smoke from the end of his gun and casually smiling as he is waiting for the police to arrest him and take him to jail..

How about those Carl's Jr. advertisements? Seems quite sexist and goddam annoying to me. Not to mention those fuckers in the advertising department for Axe body spray.

Whipped, for the girls Here is an ad that has been on TV here for about the last 3 months.
I know it might be some sort of a joke, but if a guy was really in that particular situation, would you call that a controlling, one-sided relationship?
Have a gander:
Fruit Whip Ad.

Re: Whipped, for the girls
Well what a interesting advert,i can imagine being the man who work's in the factory that make's that product, and the sudden urge to whip out his wand and add some personal product for the girl's,umm, tangy, enjoy.

Re: Whipped, for the girls
Well we all know that if the roles were reversed there would be cries of misogyny and controlling behavior.

Re: Whipped, for the girls
YouTube - The Micallef Programme - Lynn Babbage, Doll Collector same kind of thing, only way more amusing.
I don't personally see misandry in this ad; it doesn't show us anything of why the guy behaves as he does (if he's doing it because he's being yelled at or beaten, fine, but if that's not shown why complain?) it's clearly presented as comedy, and the product name, etc, makes it clear it's a joke about somone who is incredibly whipped. It doesn't imply being whipped is ok, or good, or that the wife is in the right. It's just a bit of comedy that happens to tie in with the product name.Last edited by dad_savage; 19th-January-2011 at 12:06 AM.
