I see it when I read an opinion's piece in the Calgary newspapers, I see it in commercials, in movies, in sitcoms. I remember taking a date to see a horrible "chick flick" called "Someone Like You," with Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear, and Hugh Jackman. That was the film, that I believe... sent me over the edge. "Someone Like You" is based on a book called "Animal Husbandry" which was also the original working title for the movie. I can see why they changed the name. The trailers want to have you believe that this is another "button cute" romantic "comedy" churned out by the Hollwood machine... well, it is actually, but there's such a deep-seeded hatred of men in this movie, it's hard not to ignore. The story concerns a young woman who has an affair with her boss's husband, someone she works with. She knows the guy's married, and it should be a clue... but no... the jerk stands her up, and now she hates men. She finds an article in some mag, that she uses to justify her preposterous view of men, using an assume identity to vent her spleen about the cheating ways of men, comparing them to bulls. And we're all supposed to feel sorry for this stupid bitch. This naive stupid bitch, who didn't give a fuck about the feelings of her fellow "sisterhood" when it comes to fucking around with their husbands. This movie made me sick. What movie, TV-show, book, etc. can you think of where this type of male-bashing is obvious?

Just today on Loose Women, a show I watch to understand women a bit more, they were talking about an article in the newspaper that stated Britain was high up the charts of car accidents in Europe, they then invited viewers calls on this, but what they said was "Are you a better driver than your man?". It wasn't about gender, yet that's what they made it about, this happens on shows aimed at women all the time, they compare genders when it's completely unnecessary to do so, and then only women get to speak on the subject and the conclusion is always the same, women are better. A couple of weeks ago, there was a Bernie Mac movie on, it had Ashton Kutcher in it as well, I can't remember what it was called. The story was, Ashton dates Bernie's daughter, which fills the movie with poor quality race gags throughout, and then wants to marry her, upsetting Bernie's character, it was (supposed to be) a comedy. All throughout the movie, both men are henpecked by the women, the usual nonsense, and near the end she doesn't want to marry him, so Bernie advices him that if he loves her, then she's always right. I feel sick just talking about it, the message was clear, men are buffoons, no matter what colour, and the women, no matter how petty and demanding, are always right, what a load of bollocks. Just a few weeks ago on the news, there was the story of 4 British soldiers who had been killed in Afghanistan, but because one of them was a woman, that's what the headlines were, "Women soldier dead", "Female soldier dies in battle" etc. The 3 men died in the same incident as her, yet they were clearly treated as 2nd class, expendable soldiers with the way the story was all about her. She wouldn't have wanted that, her comrades to be ignored in such a way. It's so common, I'll probably return to this thread with more examples.

I know what movie you're thinking of. It's a bullshit remake of the classic film "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?" with the races reversed. It's now called "Guess Who?" And you bring up other interesting examples, I'd love to see more.

A TV show called "Home Improvement" it had Tim Allen in it. While couched as a show for men if you watch it it is about how stupid men are and how right women are about everything especially if they are wives. Message: Men obey your wives they are smarter than you and stand on much higher moral grounds. Disobey at your own peril. Chevalier. "no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for his brother."

If you'd like to enter specific programmes/ films filled with misandry, you could also help fill up this part of the forum... (hint: have a url handy with more information on the program/ film) Also, as it's a broad subject, I moved this thread to the "Why We're Here" subforum.

I had to reply to the "40-Year-Old Virgin" thread. I didn't feel that it was anti-man in any way. I thought it was a rather funny, and intelligent film where the main character was sympathetic. Whereas most other films would just portray this guy as a nerd, here was a guy that kept himself physically fit, he's sensitive if a little shy, he's intelligent. I found nothing to hate in that movie. So I'm surprised that people would be offended by it. As for "Home Improvement" I can see where you're coming from. "The Simpsons" is a cartoonish example of the same thing. The message is clear, "The wife is always right."

Desperate Housewives is being repeated on TV, and while watching an episode the other day, I thought I witnessed a turning of the tide, but I was very wrong. The woman who does the voice-over at the end of the show started talking about fathers, she said that a good father is good at being there for the children, no matter what, he is good at protecting his family, at offering a shoulder to cry on (sounds good so far, that's what I thought, until.....), but the most important fathers, are the ones who make the mothers feel special. What a pile of shit, to be a good father is to make the mother feel special, typical women's attitude, it's all about them.

Well, I'm not surprised... considering it's a show that celebrates cheating wives. And of course, it becomes a hit show for women. Another show that disgusts me, recently made the leap to the big screen. "Sex and The City." Now here's a show about women with nothing better to do than get laid and talk a lot of crap about it. Oh, and lots and lots of shopping of course. It's not the sex that bothers me, it's the greed and materialism that's just below the surface. The fact that the new movie is all about a wedding, should give us all a tip-off. There's a part in the trailer where "Mr. Big" asks horse-face if she wants a diamond ring. "No, just a really big closet." I don't think she was kidding. Another show that I find horrible: "Everybody Loves Raymond." Ray's wife is the biggest bitch I've ever seen on television. She's like the TV-Wife from Hell. She makes Jill Taylor from "Home Improvement" look like Marry Poppins. Here is a woman who looks down at her husband, and considers him a fool. And of course, she's always right about everything, while Ray is a dumb fuck. I'd like to see an episode where Ray blows up and punches her in the mouth.
