I don't know, Feckless. Nowadays it's a risky venture to allow a boy to play with a toy gun. You never know...he might say the word "gun" at school...which is akin to saying the word "bomb" on an airplane.

And that's not really an exaggeration.

Check this out....and check out the school administrator's reply. It makes my blood boil.

First Grader suspended for bringing squirt gun to school

Categories: Kids 5-7, Health & safety, Education, Toys & games
Most schools these days have a zero tolerance policy towards weapons of any kind, including toys that represent weapons. These policies are generally communicated to the parents at the start of the school year. Unfortunately, not everyone pays attention. Six-year-old Tawann Caskey apparently didn't get the message and he's paying the price with a 10-day suspension.

Tawann brought an orange, 2-inch squirt gun to Milton Moore Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. According to School District policy, the squirt gun is a simulated weapon and comes with an automatic 10-day suspension. Principals have no discretion in cases like these. Phyllis Budesheim, and administrator with the school district, explained "We ask our principals for safety of students and staff, and we do follow the code of conduct and do not give exceptions to Class IV offenses. We take it very seriously."

"I think this could have been resolved in a different way. It's wrong to bring it school, but come on, he's 6 years old. This would not hurt a soul," said the boy's mother, Danielle Womack. Whether or not it could hurt someone is not the point, however. At the most basic level, the boy broke the rules and needs to understand that there are consequences for doing so.

A weapon, even a toy one, however, is a special case. Personally, I take the stance that there is no such thing as a toy gun; every gun is treated with the care and caution I'd give to a real weapon. I want my kids' schools to do the same. "We regret that this happened. My feeling is that by not giving any exceptions, this young man will not bring a toy gun to school again," Budesheim said.

Sometimes I wish you could literally beat people wiht common sense. And it should hurt because it should have spikes. I somehow missed the point where we went from funny to downright crazy.

Fake german accent? It should read "nein" not "nien". Nien is more like the russion niet. And now I wonder is there an English word with "ei" how do you pronounce that?

Wow! Really? So, now toys do NOT exist anymore because of the Global War on Terror (GWOT)? Interesting. So are little boys allowed to play Cops and Robbers or Cowboys and Indians anymore? Maybe they can play Soldiers and Taliban? But then again, that would require toy guns and toy bombs and there is no such thing as toys anymore with the GWOT going on.

All firearms, paintball guns, and air guns should be treated as guns as they can all hurt people. But squirt guns? Please. Maybe we should stop allowing little girls to play with dolls as it might lead to their forming teenage pregnancy pacts. I know, maybe kids could start playing Government Agents and Slaves. The governt workers could spy on the citizens, taze them, take their kids away, force them to take state-sponsored drugs, imprison those who take non-state-sponsored drugs, use SWAT teams to storm people's home and take their guns, and give the slaves the proper words to speak and ideology to believe. It would be a real fun, "non-violent" game for little kids to play at home and school.

Guns are guns, toys are toys. So many of these linguini-spined, dysfunctional people known as school teachers & admins are so out of touch with our planet I wonder why they don't float in the air. When I was six, I only got in trouble for getting into fistfights! Any thing less was "boys will be boys." We even had a "squirt gun day" at school. Of course, they are paint ball markers, not guns. Oh oh, and they're squirt toys, not squirt guns. We need to line up these teachers and admins and paddle them in the school yard for being twats.

I'm wholly unsurprised. My kids's school has a zero tolerance policy. It doesn't matter if it's a squirt gun or a cardboard cut-out, possession of anything that replicates a weapon, even if it's a tiny plastic sword in the possession of a first grader results in expulsion.

I know I've mentioned it here before, but my friend's kids go to a school with a zero touch policy. They can be expelled for touching another child, even it's nothing more than a friendly pat on the back....mind you these are grade school children (ages 5-11).
"Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very good’s sake—that is spirituality." -David O. McKay

The best idea is to heat-seal them in cellophane when they arrive in school. Nobody will be touched nor can play with toy weapons....another problem solved.

Only if they want to get tasered! Well, nevermind, that's only if they're boys. Girls can carry colt 45's to school.

I think such treatment is abusive. People need to touch and be touched. It's a healthy part of life. So if the 5-11 year olds are playing kickball or something and the winning team wants to celebrate, they can't hug or high five? I think such a policy will have negative, long-term psychological effects. People that are deprived of human touch a less mentally and emotionally healthy.

But your Son is male. 'Nuff said.
I used to work in the public school system (as a techie) and I never ever once saw a girl get reprimanded for being a little brat, but you better believe that not one boy in the class could go a day without getting yelled at. The girls would talk all day and do no work, and the boys would get yelled at for getting things wrong, or not coloring in properly.
