There is no such thing as a perfect martial art style.

As a practising proponent of Hung Kuen kung fu, as well as a proficiency attained in other martial art disciplines, I'd state there is no perfect martial art.

Bruce Lee was way beyond his time when he devised his own style 'Jeet Kune Do' (JKD) which was a amalgamation of the best of different styles.

Furthermore, the natural ability of any fighter plays a "huge" part as to whether a style is deemed more or less effective. Oh, and the direction of a good sensei/teacher helps.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

I am not really the competitive type, which many people find odd..

To me, competing ruins the enjoyment of sport, thats probably why i dont like team sports but prefer to just enjoy the experience of gliding down the hill, chucking a few spins and twists in now and then, or if on a horse, a few jumps here and there..

I sort of compete with myself in the main..

Usually stopping when I break something, usually a bone somewhere in my body..

Most competitive sport seems to be enjoyed by others, or others profit from it, and the cheating, drugs and nonsense like that ruins it..

I could have been a good body builder when younger, I was naturally gifted and very much enjoyed chucking weights around, but there is no way on this planet that one can compete in muscle sports without drugs..

And, no way am I going to put my favourite body part out of commission as a side effect of anything!

I tried fencing at Secondary school, back when we were allowed to use "confrontational objects" during Phys Ed classes.
I didn't really enjoy it that much, it's not as disciplined as Kendo.
Kendo is good in the respect that it has a pathway through the ranks and you are graded as to your knowledge and abilities at regular intervals.
The sword used in Kendo is held with two hands and is made from bamboo, however people seem to think that seems bamboo is used, being hit with one of these swords won't hurt, it's all bullshit, I constantly seem to have bruises over my torso, maybe I have some sort of a sadistic streak as well, who knows?.
BTW, Wikipedia has a rather good page on Kendo, it can be found here.
There are a lot of other things about Kendo that are different, but I don't want to bore you all to tears.

Thanks, Billy. I still haven't signed him up yet because I haven't been able to decided which to go with.

We don't compete, either or really get into the tricks too much. I'm into more extreme, rugged boarding, like Snowcat boarding. I'd love to try heli-boarding one of these days. There's nothing like 10,000 vertical feet of untracked powder.

1. Gridiron Football
2. International Rugby
3. International Hockey (Ice)
4. K-1
5. Pride Fighting
6. International Soccer
7. Baseball (Rounders)

I'll play almost anything, but don't ask me to watch volleyball, basketball or any of the endless dance sports. I'm into science fiction too, but I'll save that for another thread.

For self defense, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is far more effective than ANY form of karate, as it is made for street situations against any sized opponent.

Kenpo is mostly fluff with the exception of American Kenpo, but unless you want your boy coming home with A LOT of bruises, I'd definetly6 go Gracie. And as a professional martial artist, I like to think I know what I'm talking about.

My favorite sports are any combat sport, football (amero), and basketball (GO LAKERS!!)

I like swimming - mostly because it's the only one I can do and not injure myself!
