I remember in grade school,I used to draw battlefield's with war planes, ship's and soldier's blowing up and getting shot and wounded.

The teacher didn't report me for this,he taught me how to draw better pics of fighter planes.

Re: Police arrest and stripsearch innocent man after child doodles a gun

Meanwhile a senior cop leaves his loaded gun lying around (instead of, as per his own friggin' regs, it being unloaded and locked away) while giving a press conference about gear being stolen from the cop-shop.

Based on Freedom ofInformation requests, the National Firearms Association (NFA) has determined that since October 2008, police forces and other law-enforcement agencies have lost at least 428 firearms nationwide. Thirty-two were lost by or stolen from the RCMP. Another 316 went missing from municipal police forces, while 80 have gone missing from other agencies, exclusive of the military.

The missing arsenal includes two sniper rifles lost by the Peel regional police outside Toronto, one handgun left in a Tim Hortons, one dropped in a parking lot and several left behind at crime scenes.

Why is it so bad when civilians mishandle guns, but no so when the police do? Both lost or stolen weapons are as likely to end up in the hands of criminals, but if a civilian unsafely stores his firearms, the legal ceiling caves in on him.

Consider that the same day Chief Graham was being rapped on the knuckles for leaving his pistol under his car seat, a Kitchener, Ont. man, Jesse Sansone, was arrested – arrested! — because his four-year-old daughter drew a gun at kindergarten and mentioned to her teacher that she had seen a gun in the house. That’s the extent of the double standard on gun handling — police vs. citizens – in Canada.

Mr. Sansone was not in charge of a police force that misplaced deadly riot equipment. He had not left a loaded deadly weapon under the front seat of his Corolla. His daughter drew a picture of a gun and talked about her daddy’s guns at pre-school and — wham! —the state buries him under a ton of bricks.

Dad arrested, stripped searched for daughter's drawing

Dad Jesse Sansone Arrested, Strip-Searched After Daughter Draws a Picture of a Gun in School | Video | TheBlaze.com
Excerpt: 'A Canadian father was arrested and strip-searched Wednesday after his 4-year-old daughter drew a picture of a gun in her kindergarten class.
Ontario dad Jesse Sansone told the Toronto Sun his little girl’s drawing was supposed to be him, getting monsters and bad guys. Her teacher apparently thought differently, and the school contacted child protective services. When Sansone arrived to pick his daughter up, three police officers were waiting to take him into custody.

I don't know about the RCMP and losing their weapons, but in my state if a cop leaves his weapon behind at a crime scene, or is just careless and loses it, that is a pink slip offense. No mediation, no union support. It's a violation of the officers sworn oath. If a criminal uses the cops weapon in a crime, the cop can be personally sued in court for damages. It has happened twice where I live.

"Co-Parent Teacher" Called Cops Over 4 Yr Olds Gun Drawing

Yup, an idiot teacher explaining why the police arrested a 4 year old's father because she drew a picture of a gun described himself as a "Co-Parent" of the child. Typical nanny state gibberish from the commies infesting our education system.

I wonder... If a female child drew a pair of scissors with blood dripping off them and a pair of severed balls and she said alike to "this is how mommy treats daddy" would any of these 'do gooder' teachers get social involved and would they then get the police out and would they then do a strip-search after arresting the mother?
Oh, come now. You know full well that a wife cutting her husband's balls off is a subject of humour.

The teacher would have posted up the drawing so that everyone could join the fun that genital mutilation always causes on television.

Re: Police arrest and stripsearch innocent man after child doodles a gun

Why is CBC refusing to cover this story?

Tone-deaf Waterloo police claim Sansone arrest not about guns

Last week, Jessie Sansone of Kitchener, Ont., was arrested inside his children’s school when he arrived to pick them up after class. He was strip searched and thrown in a cell, while his wife was brought into the police station and his children taken by Family and Children’s Services. After several hours, Sansone was suddenly released with apologies, and told the entire ordeal was triggered when his four-year-old daughter’s teacher reported there may have been a gun in Sansone’s home. The basis of this allegation was a picture she’d drawn of her daddy shooting monsters and bad guys. Sansone is not a firearms owner, and the closest thing to a gun the police found after searching his home was a plastic toy.

The story received international attention, and the Waterloo Regional Police have reportedly been flooded with complaints about their treatment of an innocent man. Chief Matt Torigian has ordered an investigation, but wants to be very clear that this was a child safety issue, not a gun issue. Except that the chief, in an interview with local media, brought up the gun issue twice himself, saying, “There’s no disputing the fact that in this case, Mr. Sansone was arrested and detained because the officers believed he may have been in possession of a firearm” and “In the early stages, [Sansone] was suspected of being involved in weapons.’’

But, gosh, it sure didn’t have anything to do with guns. How’d anyone get that idea?Chief Torigian has done the right thing by calling for a review of the situation. There are serious questions about the conduct of his forces that need to be answered: Did the police do any investigating of their own before arresting a man, or take hearsay evidence with any effort at verification (given that Sansone was arrested for possession of a firearm before his home was searched, it would seem to be the latter)? Did the information given to police by school and child welfare officials amount to probable cause sufficient to warrant an arrest? Why was Sansone strip searched, something Chief Torigian admits is not standard procedure? He is quite right that if the people of Waterloo Region, half a million souls and growing fast, are to maintain faith in police, they need these questions answered in a transparent, accountable manner.

Re: Police arrest and stripsearch innocent man after child doodles a gun

Plenty of mistakes made, but no lessons learned in treatment of Jessie Sansone

Police in Waterloo, Ont. arrested, handcuffed and strip-searched an innocent man after his four-year-old daughter drew a picture in school of her daddy shooting monsters with a gun. He does not own a gun and was later released with apologies by police. But school and child welfare officials insist they did the right thing and would do it again. No one but the teacher ever saw the picture (it was erased), and her word was automatically taken over a parent, who wasn’t even asked for an explanation before being dragged off. Despite the deep concern we all have with child welfare, shouldn’t schools and other authorities at least show a modicum of respect for parents before assuming they’re crazed abusers?

Barbara Kay in Montreal: I had a similar situation once that I handled very differently. I was the editor of an anthology of creative writing for high school students. One girl sent in a beautifully written, but disturbing story about a girl who murdered her mother in revenge for some perceived grievance. The killing was graphically described in detail. My committee and I wondered if we should do something about it. In the end, we called the mother and told her about her daughter’s story. The mother was surprised but assured us there was nothing wrong in the household. At that point I suppose I could have called child services, but I felt the mother was forthcoming and without guile, and my instinct was to drop it.
I decided that if every kid that wrote a piece of bloody fiction in future was aware that his or her writing would result in an invasion of the state into the household, with who knows what results, it was better to assume that the kid was just a brilliant writer. Which she was. She actually won first prize and read it aloud at the launch, to her mother’s embarrassment but also – since she had a sense of humour – her delight in the irony of the situation. The girl went on to win a Rhodes scholarship and is now a doctor with a beautiful family. I have to wonder how upsetting and guilt-making it would have been for that girl if the CAS had become involved in her act of creativity.

    Lots more...

    Crayon gun dad seeks justice

OTTAWA -- The Ontario family that was put through hell because of a child's kindergarten drawing is back on their feet and ready to fight, while the police department involved still hasn't decided if it messed up.
Jessie Sansone, a 26-year-old father of four, is speaking with a new lawyer. He says he's trying to get justice after he was arrested, strip-searched, and held in a cell while his home was searched by police and his children taken away by social workers for interviews.
Their ordeal began after his four-year-old daughter, Nevaeh, drew a picture of him fighting monsters and bad guys in her Kitchener classroom, and it ended with the discovery of a clear plastic toy gun.
"We are going to fight for our rights, everybody's support is very encouraging for us to go forth and do that," Sansone told QMI Agency Tuesday. He says the social workers tried to demand that the toy be out of reach of the children before they would close their case on his family.
"They said the case was going to stay open with them unless we gave them a document stating that we agreed that the 'gun' was out of harm's reach of the children. It was unbelievable. We didn't agree to do that."
Last February, the child doodled on her classroom white board. The teacher thought she saw a gun in the drawing, questioned the tot and called social services who then called police.
The cops were waiting for Sansone at the school when he arrived to pick up his kids.
Sansone says police questioned him, told him he was arrested for the possession of a firearm and walked him to one of the many surrounding squad cars in handcuffs. Meanwhile, police were searching his house for a gun that resembled the little girl's drawing. They took his pregnant wife, Stephanie, downtown and questioned her, too.
Social workers drove three of the Sansone kids from school to the family services centre across town for questioning.
At the police station, Jessie was told to strip, lift his testicles, and bend over. He was then put in a cell to wait for hours. Eventually, police dropped the charges and drove him home. Police say they found a see-through plastic toy gun that is spring loaded and propels tiny plastic beads. The fake guns sell for about $17 at Canadian Tire.
The school board insisted it did the right thing by the family because they 'co-parent' and so did the social workers. The Sansones have since found a new school.
"It was a pretty big shock for them at first, getting used to a whole new crowd, trying to make new friends. We are working with the principal just in case they get questioned in school about the story. So far nothing has popped up," Sansone said.
The Kitchener Waterloo Police had promised to conduct an internal review to see if they erred in the case. After waiting for three months, QMI Agency asked for the result, but the report's release has been postponed since the first query.
The story sparked outrage from Truro, N.S., to Tahsis, B.C., and many have offered to help the family sue.
