So if only women can collect food from these places, how does this stop the weak and vulnerable from being pushed to the side?
It's insulting to assume the lack of men would mean a lack of bad behaviour. I'm sure there are plenty of big women who could easily push aside those weaker than them, so who is helping the really weak? No-one, because it's not about helping people, it's about portraying women as the most vulnerable victim at all times, even over children, the real feminist agenda, fuck those in need of help, we can use this dire situation for our own gain, scum, scum, scum.

(Their families probably include men.) Perhaps single men get their rations delivered to them?...and if this method of allowing women only into the centers cuts back on theft and violence, why wouldn't it be a good idea?

They had to do something to make distribution less chaotic. Whether or not it actually works out to be less chaotic remains to be seen. I agree with other posters who have mentioned that women can be as ruthless and violent as men, and the situation in Haiti surely must test the reserve of all, not just the men.

Aid workers are undoubtedly scrambling to figure out a system that cuts back on the theft and violence but they are probably short handed. There are two million people (maybe more) who need aid. This is a desperate strategy that, in the end, may prove to be no more useful than the original one that allowed menfolk into the centers. The idea behind all of this, of course, is that women are less likely to fight or to steal and are more fragile, needy, and weak.

It's using the excuse of theft and violence as a guise for insidious elements within the UN to discriminate against men via their ill-conceived social engineering programs.

Think about it logically, all these women returning from queuing, laden with food, will be at a greater threat of violence and theft by gangs who've been preying on the population long before the earthquake.

Let's not also forget out of upwards of 200,000 people 'estimated' dead, there'll be many families without a mother/adult female, so what happens to the remainder of these families when the father can't collect rations?

Obviously aid agencies in Haiti have realized that women can be better trusted to manage and distribute food aid, rather than hording it and trying to extract usurous profits from it: there is a lesson for the whole world in this.

What will the majority of women say when they suffer for the actions of a few women? Such double speak, women are the ones that say "not all women are like that" and therefore "not all women should be lumped together with those that are". Yet, those women that "aren't like that" deem it perfectly acceptable to lump all men in the same category even though "all men aren't like that".

Not all men were stealing food or being violent but all men still suffer the same consequences regardless. I point this out because it should be noted that when women all suffer the same consequences it doesn't matter that "you aren't like that" because greater men have suffered and you can suffer too.

If women can ignore that "all men aren't like that" then we men can ignore that "all women aren't like that"... part of the reason I hate the "not all _ are like that" argument is because the people that use it only use it to serve their own self interests but they don't use it when it works in the benefit of someone else.
