I dont sell my body or my labour, so I dont get your take here..

Manipulating people is hard work, why would anyone want to do that?

The easy way is to find someone who already does what you want!
Most women don't want to do what men want

manipulating is easy for most women according to you. all they have to do is look pretty and men fix their cars.

Indeed, it comes natural to women, but for men, it is usually not something they are geared towards, what with them being more forthright and more focused on doing things for themselves which is usually much more likely to get the job done that trying to get someone else to do it!

True enough that females are typically multi-tasking but shallow, and men are single-minded but deep, if we give a damn.

Who cares about it? If we accept men and women are different then we should forget about men being faithful to women. Isn't that the traditional way?
    About bolded bit.

It is not tradition. It is just the way the things turned out.

Before the pill, women who were fertile didn't mind men having sex with other women. In fact, many women encouraged it. They were tired of having babies and more children to raise.

It is quite new for men to be faithful. Some of it comes from having to pay money for the babies outside marriage and some of it comes from women having a life outside being an incubator and being a soul mate. IMHO

    (2) first. It is quite new for men to be faithful.

    Justify that, Jools.

Men today have been men since they were 21.

Before that they were boys, most far too young to be married, let alone have anyone to be 'faithful' too.

If you are talking of 'historically', where is your data to support such a calumny?

Have you some specific 'culture' in mind that you are taking their due tar-brush to paint all other men?

I would hazard that most men have been faithful to their wives, their countries their professions and all other matters for which they have given their word. Englishmen, for instance, were reknown for keeping their word.

Now for (1). Before the pill, women who were fertile didn't mind men having sex with other women.

    This is a joke, shirley?

    You are pulling our legs.

Or have you lost your mind?

Re: Men being faithful to their wives

Way back in the mists of time when I still lived in England, I served on the local council for about thirteen years. A standing joke among the hill-farmers that I represented was that I only got elected because I could do joined-up writing.

I mention this as background because it was for very similar reasons that I was initiated as a "Datu" (chieftain) of a local hill tribe here in Mindanao, seven years ago. It is not unusual for a Datu to take additional wives but the existing wife or wives must be consulted. They almost always agree because the burdens of both farm labour and childbearing are then shared. An additional benefit is that they move one rung up the social ladder.

Men who are higher up in the pecking order have more land and therefore more need of additional help. You might be thinking that's all well and good but this is the twenty first century and things have changed.

Yes they have. Some members of my tribe carry cellphones. Many men, and women too, have been to the city and seen traffic jams and shopping malls. But old traditions die hard. Three hundred and fifty years of colonisation did not eradicate them and I don't expect to see much change in my lifetime.

While I don't see the point of her hysteria about "experiments on women and new-born babies" (Vivisection?? Canada and New Zealand were evil patriarchies before feminism?? Shock Horror!! My Dad never told me), Julie makes a good point that we we do in our relationships is very much culturally determined.

In this region people from the hills, along with the Muslims behave much as they did in pre-colonial times. Christians behave that way too. They just pretend that they don't.
