It was at this point, fairly early on, that my jaw started to tense.

As a chap who's Professional skills required the painstaking scraping away (several month's work) of tiny bits of cellular matter to reveal the deep structures of the brain, logging the findings and learning the myriad names for all the 'parts' and what they do or contribute to, I get mightily annoyed by yobbos making overarching - and incorrect - statements about male and female brains.

The two hemispheres are NOT dis-equally relied upon or used by males and females That is just nonsense. The symmetry differential (or otherwise) does NOT indicate that women are better able to communicate (that being determined by the Brocca (for words) and Wernike (for meaning) areas on the left side - the so-called 'male' side). The major link between the two hemispheres is the corpus callosum which is significantly thicker in females (by some 10%). This enables a more diffuse cross referral between the two hemispheres and slows down decision making in females as they are processing more information - much of which is redundant or irrelevant to the moment.

There are clearly aspects of brain archtecture which have an effect on masculine and feminine modes of approach to matters and their different - gender-specific - skills and talents. But the ascription of value to one or the other in order to score smarty points is adolescent, unscientific and plain stupid. It is demeaning whichever way that is used.

Men and women are the pinnacle of creation. Both ought to be revered. They are cooperative and complementary. They also share far, far more than what distinguishes them.

Excellent! After reading some Feministing.com comments ("My communication-loving female brain!"), this is the perfect rejoinder
to their propaganda. Please do a thread on this! BTW, I haven't heard the word "yobbo" in years ... I'd almost forgotten it. Bravo!
