Time magazine sexism, lies and arrogance

The latest issue of Time magazine has the headline:

    Sex. Lies. Arrogance.
What Makes Powerful Men Act Like Pigs.

Time would not have published the same headline with the word "women" substituted for "men", because there would have been an international outcry from feminists.

This is direct sexism. It is what it is.

We can talk for a long time about this, or we can all get onto Time's website and cancel our subscriptions TODAY. I've just done it - it's very easy. Don't shout at them - they will ignore you. TAKE ACTION TODAY.

Sounds like a campaign to me! If I had a subscription, I would cancel it per your request.

Having had a scan over the author's other works, I conclude that this is probably the magazine editor, not the author, who came up with the heading.

Nancy Gibbs is not new to addressing the feminist impact, nor male-female relationships but mostly does so from an ambivalent viewpoint that does not make it clear which - if any - side she personally is on. A quote from another of her articles:
I never understood why, from the perspective of fighting the patriarchy, it was somehow more liberated to bear your father's name than your husband's, especially since you choose your husband and inherit your father.

With the arrest of the IMF boss, one may wonder about the timing of this article
The greatest enemy of the truth is very often not the deliberate lie - but the persistent, persuasive and unrealistic myth that the lie creates

Douglas, both the editor and the author must take responsibility for their work.
Richard, the article uses the arrest of Dominique Strauss-Khan as its point of topicality. It does not seriously investigate the possibility that he is innocent. The accusation has been enough to cost him his job.

    letters@timemagazine.com

My question to them would be:

"How many negative generalisations about women have appeared on Time's cover in the last twenty years?"

In the article, Nancy Gibbs states:

"A study set to be published in Psychological Science found that the higher men - or women [my italics] - rose in a business hierarchy, the more likely they were to consider or commit adultery."

If this is true, why does her piece only discuss powerful men acting like "pigs"? Perhaps we could furnish Nancy with a few examples of women behaving badly - she appears to be short of them.

Please feel free to "moderate out" this last paragraph - I appreciate it may go too far, but I would like the rest of what I've written to be left in if possible; When I said it was very easy to cancel your subscription, I meant it. I had to provide my customer reference number and an email address. The one I provided did not match the one used to take out the subscription. The customer reference number must be a valid one, but it is visible on the outside of the clear plastic envelope used by Time to post its magazine to all its subscribers. You may spot them around - in the trash of a neighbour, in a communal post slot etc. Now of course I wouldn't advocate doing anything criminal, but ...

If this 'timely' article is referring to the supposed propensity of powerful men to commit adultery (often without proof it seems!), you could validly drop the argument down the power structure, which only concerns a infinitesimal number of men (and women), and spread the same theme more persuasively to a wider demographic of women perpetuating such unfounded falsehoods.

    Projection. Bias.

Time Magazine is very misandrist and has been for a long time. Rarely do they peddle feminism, though.

It's a magazine that doesn't talk much about feminism, just talks men down in every edition, often with the feature article.

Well, there was Carly Fiorina, who was catapulted to CEO Of Hewlett Packard over more qualified men, in order to appease quotas. And under her stewardship of the company (Dec 99-Feb 05) it lost 166 billion dollars (representing 87% of the company if I recall).

I believe they rewarded her with about 21 million dollars upon her long overdue departure, for being such a monumental fuck-up, and she still commands hefty sums at feminist sob rallies and speaking engagements where she advises people how to bankrupt themselves in the shortest imaginable time.

If you haven't figured out that time magazine is garbage, then you have some catching up to do.

Scorn and mockery towards men in need is one of the reasons feminism is dying as we speak!.

Given the institutionalized corruption of the schooling system, in the absence of an objective curriculum, it is incumbent upon awakened students to seek out alternative viewpoints to whatever subject it is they're studying (as standard), lest they succumb to ideologically-driven propaganda.

Never, ever, accept what you are being told as being gospel. Always question. Always undertake your own research which delves beyond the well-trodden paths. Always strive for more than just being part of a gullible herd.

The author Nancy Gibbs should be fired or warned for such a blatant male-bashing article. TIME wouldn't dare write such a piece about powerful women.

    This doesn't shock me.

Violence, rape, cheating - everything is on rise. While misogynist blame it on feminism, the social philosophers point the finger to the "lost" childhood.
If you were to study the demographic pattern of crime (i.e. crime statistic as per generations) you will find positive correlation. It seems that an entire generation is being brought up far too insensitive, insecure, pleasure driven and lacking social skills.

Now women must take part in social reform.

To think about what should or could be done to ensure that 'our' legacy - 'our' boys and girls - are better "person" than the previous generations not worse..

This is pertinent as single mom households account for more than 40% of total, if not more. Increased involvement of fathers is essential, but what is 'our' tactical approach in the betterment of 'our' children?

    Something to think about.
