Boycott Virgin and Qantas Airlines

Yes but it finally hit the news yesterday in a big way and there's a major chance of us finally winning. Look at the Sydney Morning Herald poll - 63,000 votes and 87% of them in agreement with us! We need to keep up the pressure on them and even try to expand the story so other airlines get the attention they deserve.

Do everytihng you can to keep this in the news and to shame them into changing their policy. Contact any newspapers who haven't covered it yet, write letters to them, contact tv and radio. Contact politicians. Everything - opportunities like this are rare.

This is actually a very encouraging story, from a media analysis point of view, even a victory.

This is the first news piece out of many I've reviewed since coming on this site,
where the media did not retreat to a rationalizing position with feminist undertones.
It actually reads like real journalism. Which is a long cold drink in the desert for men just now.

And Australian men and manhood immediately stood up and were counted over this,

and I didn't see one mention of any formal movement being necessary

for men and citizens to claim what is rightfully theirs.

This is a victory not for activism, but for manhood itself.

They'll have to change the name of the airline,

because they pretty much fucked themselves on this one.

Actually, Marx, watching Glen Poole's TED bit the other day really inspired me.
He took some hits here for his particulars, and some say lack of them, but

the guy is funny.

I could so easily see that script,
done word for wordin a comedy club
and getting it away from those dried-out intellectuals who
like to be seen at TEDs.

And, in a lot of personal interactions with member friends here,

I see we need to laugh, and make others laugh.

Virgin reviews 'sexist' flight policy

A PUBLIC backlash has prompted Virgin Australia to announce it will review its policy barring men from sitting beside unaccompanied children on flights.The company was criticised yesterday after a Sydney fireman reported his experience of being asked to swap seats because he was seated beside two unaccompanied boys.
In a backflip the airline said: ''We understand the concerns raised around our policy for children travelling alone, a long-standing policy initially based on customer feedback.
''In light of recent feedback, we're now reviewing this policy. Our intention is certainly not to discriminate in any way.''

Just because they're reviewing it doesn't mean it will stop. They've kept this policy for ages so will probably just hope all this blows over and the promise of a review may just be a tactic for deflecting attention. We need to keep up the pressure on them.

The curious thing is,

if trained flight attendants whose job it is
to keep people safe
can't protect unaccompanied children
from threats real and imagined

What?

they expect female passengers

to?

I think this table is possible only up to date as of 2011 but it suggests we still have nine more airlines to defeat:

It may be the case that a couple quietly stopped their sexism following the BA case, but at this case shows, plenty of them still hate men.

The responses of the airlines remind me of the family courts BS.. Interestingly, I wonder who would be more useful to a child in an emergency? A male next to him, (who as we know, is expected to die to save women and children) or someone who panics and decides her life is of more value than the child.?
