Study: Men, Women Nearly Equally Talkative

WASHINGTON - Another stereotype — chatty gals and taciturn guys — bites the dust.Turns out, when you actually count the words, there isn’t much difference between the sexes when it comes to talking.
A team led by Matthias R. Mehl, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Arizona, came up with the finding, which is published in Friday’s issue of the journal Science.

I read that article on Msn today I think the research is biased on this one by only using college students for their study of course students at college talk more they are experiencing new things and drinking doing the things young adults do. Oh and they are probably talking to women. I don't think it was a very good sampling of all people though.

Meh. I think psychologists usually run their experiments on college students anyway because they're easily accessible. The sample size is really small too. It's just one experiment that can easily be retested. And it isn't "real" science anyway. (Apologies in advance for anyone who's offended by that remark)

I dunno, do you really buy it? I thought they had proven that girls start talking earlier and more frequently?

One example: If you go to a ladies strip club (think Full Monty or Chippendales) the audience is very noisy, they won't shut up. If you then go to a men's strip club what do you find? All quiet, the announcer often has to goad the patrons to applaud.

If I'm in a public washroom (lavatory) and the ladies are next door they are usually much chattier doing their business.

    There must be other examples...?

Wait in any queue to pay for groceries or whatnot... who's doing the talking?
When in a club (as in nightclub) often the squawking noises outweigh the grunting noises.
Yeah, there's a good few more too.

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.

Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

What irritates me is when we are out for a drive. My dad and I can drive for hours and not say a word. Just listen to some music, look at the scenery etc. When I'm with my mom, sister... errr actually any woman that I've driven with, they cannot stop talking. Even for one song on the radio, they can't do it. They just ramble on about nothing, it's like they need to talk, even if its about nothing.

That's annoying when people start making small talk at strangers. I think I'll read a magazine... crap. They all have a picture of a woman on the cover or a kitchen and some articles about ten way to be happier or fashion and decorating ideas with a $5000 budget. I guess I'll read the article about an orgasm. Or wait, that headline about the man who gave birth to a three headed space alien spider looks interesting...

LAst study I saw said women do 20,000 words daily, men do 7000..

I talk a lot when dealing with women.. its practically impossible to have a consice conversation with a woman.. They never use 3 words when 3000 will do..
