Study: Brain Objectifies Women As Body Parts, Men As Whole « CBS St. Louis
LINCOLN, Neb. (CBS St. Louis) — A recent study finds that our brain objectifies women as different body parts, while viewing men as a whole.
The study, published in June’s European Journal of Social Psychology, was conducted by Sarah Gervais, a psychology professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
She conducted experiments by presenting 227 participants of the study with images of men and women, finding that men were perceived as a “global” – or whole – cognitive processing level, while women were seen on a “local” cognitive processing level.
See, it's nature's fault, not ours.
Seriously, the person behind this study is a quart low.Last edited by Zuberi; 27th-July-2012 at 05:11 AM.
Greed is for amateurs.
Knowledge without wisdom is a load of books on the back of an ass.
Scorn and mockery towards men in need is one of the reasons feminism is dying as we speak!.

Double vision: How our brains see men as people and women as body parts | Mail Online
My (unposted) response:
The words 'scientist' and 'psychology' is an oxymoron, as psychology has become a slavish extension of feminist ideology within academia. The author has begun the study with a preconcieved premise and crafted the (shoddy) methodology to dovetail with her blinkered worldview. Googling the work of Sarah Gervais (which includes women's studies) confirms my suspicions, as it reads like a cliched list of stereotypes and paranoia which was out of date even in the 70s. Modern psychology has more in common with a cult, than the rigour, methodology, empirical processes and peer review you associate with genuine science. It's no more scientific than the cult of scientology! Both are cults with mindless devotees. It's another embarassing example of junk science which is only fit to line a litter tray. And doesn't this so-called study conflict with a more extensive study Daily Mail covered a few months ago, which concluded we all (men and women) essentially objectify one another.Last edited by Celtic Druid; 27th-July-2012 at 07:13 AM.

Re: Study: Brain Objectifies Women As Body Parts, Men As Whole
The type of images used would change the way men see women. There's a study on that somewhere; I'll find it tomorrow.

Another example of what feminist quota academics get up to when they are over-promoted and feather-bedded by our taxes. This one is slightly more subtle than most, but the underlying message is the same old cant: women are perpetual victims, men always have it better.
Go stick it where the sun doesn't shine, Sarah Gervais. Then try getting a real job where you actually do something worthwhile for a change and make a positive contribution to humanity.Civilisation: man's greatest, and most unappreciated, gift to women

Women in bikinis activate "tool" parts of male brains I think this topic is the best place to put this given the choices.
Here is a piece with links about a study in which images of women wearing bikinis activated the region of a male's brain that is associated with tools.

So a 'study' of:
21 heterosexual male undergraduates at Princeton .......... confirms a long-suspected effect of sexy images on the way women are perceivedSusan Fiske, Nobel Prizewinner for Bullshit?"When there are sexualised images in the workplace, it's hard for people not to think about their female colleagues in those terms. It spills over from the images to the workplace," she said.

Re: Women in bikinis activate "tool" parts of male brains
Make sense. I always want to fire up the planer-joiner and make a cabinet after I see pictures of women in bikinis. That explains why I can't move around my house very readily due to all the cabinets, hutches, bookshelves, and Armoires I've made in my spare time.
Damn that Bikini calendar in my shop!

Re: Women in bikinis activate "tool" parts of male brains
"areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated."
You mean, areas of the brain involved with doing delicate, precise manual (hand-oriented) tasks? Duh. Going from there to the idea that this constitutes "objectification" is a very long stretch. You want to know something? A bra strap *is* an object.

Re: Women in bikinis activate "tool" parts of male brains
I wonder if there's a study on which part of a woman's brain lights up when a man pulls out his wallet?

Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."
