Women In Islam vs. Women in Christianity and Judaism

Here's an excerpt from this website ...

Islam should be viewed as a religion that had immensely improved the status of women and had granted them many rights that the modern world has recognized only this century. Islam still has so much to offer today's woman: dignity, respect, and protection in all aspects and all stages of her life from birth until death in addition to the recognition, the balance, and means for the fulfilment of all her spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional needs.
That's why it is no surprise to find that most converts to Islam, today, in a country like Britain are women.
In the U.S. women converts to Islam outnumber men converts 4 to 1 [85]
Islam has so much to offer our world which is in great need of moral guidance and leadership. Ambassador Herman Eilts, in a testimony in front of the committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress on June 24th, 1985, said, "The Muslim community of the globe today is in the neighbourhood of one billion. That is an impressive figure. But what to me is equally impressive is that Islam today is the fastest growing monotheistic religion. This is something we have to take into account. Something is right about Islam. It is attracting a good many people." (Or, it is the last "boy's club" among the major religions and therefore a target for infiltration on a large scale.)

    Much More: Women in Islam

Re: Women In Islam vs. Women in Christianity and Judaism

Is this an Islamic feminist site?

    Quote:
In a truely Islamic society women have the following rights in Islam:

    1. The right and duty to obtain education.
    2. The right to have their own independent property.
    3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it.
    4. Equality of reward for equal deeds.
    5. The right to express their opinion and be heard.
    6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.
    7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.
    8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. (pls note that God deeply frowns upon divorce as a solution unless there is hardly any other alternative but it does not mean that men have more right to divorce their wives than women do.)
    9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).
    10. The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.
    11. custody of their children after divorce.
    12. to refuse any marriage that does not please them
    and more...
    http://www.themodernreligion.com/wom...ts_summary.htm

    Quote:
In the above outline of the legal view of marriage in Islam, man and women are completely equal partners except in the following respects:

    1) Both parties make the equal responsibility to provide physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual happiness to each other, but men generally have the added responsibility to provide for the economic needs of the wife.

    2) In case the husband initiates divorce, he is obliged by religious law to pay some maintenance expenses (2:241). This prescribed alimony belongs to the wife by right. However, when the woman initiates the divorce she does not pay any compensation to the husband as requirement of religious law; she need at most return part of what she received from the husband as dower if such payment is helpful in an amicable settlement. (2:229)

    3) A man can divorce his wife on his own while a woman needs to go through court or introduce into the marriage a clause giving her the right to divorce her husband.

Feckless: Although it sounds like a feminist website, it is not. It is a website designed to edify non-Muslims as to the facts of their religion.
Those rights they listed are supposed to be guaranteed by the Q'uran,
as unbelievable as it may sound.

The Quran says that men are allowed to rape their captives, that Jews are pigs and so on. That's enough for me to dislike any of it's supporters.

The issue is... Why mind the KKK and tout up Islam?

Re: Women In Islam vs. Women in Christianity and Judaism

Sounds like a view of Islam carefully crafted for the left-wing western media.
Some of the interpretations are very dubious.

I've lived in Turkey, Pakistan and now Muslim Mindanao - but don't recognise the picture it paints. Maybe I need to do some more research.

The traditional male weapons in the sex war are non-cooperation and flight. The traditional female weapon is celebration of paternity and male responsibility. If women now choose to define this as patriarchal oppression, they are throwing away their best trick. Feminism, in dismantling patriarchy, is simply reviving the underlying greater natural freedom of men. - Geoff Dench 1998 (edited)

Re: Women In Islam vs. Women in Christianity and Judaism

I would rather have taken my chances with the KKK or Islam than the gibbering freeloading feminits and their rip off Family Courts

I would place feminitism like a growing and terminal cancer in the Western body corporate and like all cancers end up dying with the body it kills

feminit wimyn are like dodders and devote their lives to rip off tactics for hard worked for assets of men and garner their kids as hostages to fate in their legal feminit Family Court machinations

the feminite core soul components comprise avarice and malice with a sprinkling of old fashioned spite

feminits never stop wailing for more largesse from men but being careful to give very little or nothing in return

quid pro quo "ya gotta be kidding"she retorts; feminits real attitude to 'equality'

feminitism is like the tail wagging the dog

Re: Women In Islam vs. Women in Christianity and Judaism

I was watching a program about Suadi Arabia the other evening. In it was described the 'normal' way of marriage. Arranged. The husband to be in the program had not met his bride to be and was being given 'advice' from his friends. One such friend was complaining that now, six years after his own marriage he was still paying instalments on the bride-price to his father-in-law !

That list of Feck's, above looks a lot different from practice. It seems to me that having a woman's 'right' to work which doesn't enable a woman to sell knickers to other women - as a thread here earlier talked about - is a hollow right.

Also a muslim man can divorce immediately without reference to anyone, even his wife, wheras a woman wanting a divorce has to argue her case in a Sharia court.

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up.
    I am outnumbered.
    But...
YOU don't just make a difference,
    you make THE difference.
