Open Question: Is it possible to be a feminist Christian, or do Christians hate feminists?

    From Yahoo Answers
In 1 Corinthians 116. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. but if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover *his* head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 for man is not of woman, but woman of man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head. Also in 1 Timothy it talks that a woman should obey her husband and not become a teacher, braid her hair, wear expensive clothes, and also not talk in church and somewhere else it says that if she wants to ask something about church she should go home and ask her husband. So basically it says that women should be obedient and submissive to their husbands, and that they were made for men to use? This seems rather opposite to feminism to me. So when feminists say they want equal rights, do Christians disagree with them?

Don´t roll your eyes Tera. The pope is against feminism:

London, Mar 1 (ANI): The Vatican has ruled out the use of feminist baptism formulas, saying that God must always be recognised as Our Father.

In a move designed to counter the spread of gender-neutral phrases, the Holy See said that those baptised in the name “of the Creator, and of the Redeemer, and of the Sanctifier” or “of the Creator, and of the Liberator, and of the Sustainer” and who wished to convert to Catholicism, must be rebaptised.

“These variations arise from so-called feminist theology and are an attempt to avoid using the words Father and Son, which are held to be chauvinistic, the Telegraph quoted The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, as stating.

Instead, it said that the traditional form of “Father, Son and Holy Ghost” had to be respected.

The Pope, who wrote the ruling, has been a strong opponent of feminism in the Catholic Church.

In his book, The Ratzinger Report, he wrote: “I am, in fact, convinced that what feminism promotes in its radical form is no longer the Christianity that we know; it is another religion.”

Rosemary Radford Ruether, a professor of feminist theology at the Graduate Theological Union in California, said that among “liberal” Catholics, the Pope “is not our Pope”.

The Vatican said anyone baptised under the feminist terms could invalidate their marriage. (ANI)

The men's and fathers' movement needs to make sure it never sees females as the enemy,
but only misandry--whether from females or from males.
If not, we'll become like the bigoted feminists that this movement was formed to oppose.

I reserve the right to roll my eyes if I want to. I don't care much about what the pope says. I'm against people making idols out of themselves in God's name. We're not supposed to worship idols, and the pope is an idol, is he not? I believe the Bible addresses this issue as well, in the Ten Commandments.

Actually, my Brother is Christian, and he makes the same observation as Tera just has - the Pope is a personfication of a belief, an idol - he is for all accounts and purposes a hypocrit and a blasphemer.

However, I'm not much into religion so it's all over my head.

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

The Pope is right...Feminism is a religion.

Just like Environmentalism, Atheism, and Pacifism.

Fundamentally I think that we all need a religion of some kind.

I have some atheist friends...they always talk about their atheism and welcome new converts or those who disparage other religions.

Some others are super-greenies who for example are spending another 25K to make their Toyota Prius hybrid fully electric for short trips. I pointed out that the net hit to the environment with the toxic battery chemicals and the payback time would be very long. This is to save gas on a 2 mile commute. What about if a bike was ridden? Or carpooling. No. The Prius must be full electric ASAP and they have pamphlets they hand out about it. It's like they need a talking point oh my car is fully electric. Well how was the electricity you charge it with produced? Sacrilege!

Not all Christians worship the pope. But he is an idol unto himself and to many others. The saints he appoints are also idols. I have nothing against good works, it's the idolizing of people I have a problem with. All of that aside...I'm not Catholic, so what the pope has to say is meaningless to me, anyway.

Again....no one worships the pope. The pope is not God nor God sent and people don´t pray to the pope. Maybe I am lost in translation here.
