MONTREAL (CP) - More than a dozen women crowded tables today at a gay bar that threw out another woman earlier this week when she tried to have a drink with her father.

Audrey Vachon, a Quebec college student, has filed a discrimination complaint against Le Stud bar with the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

She wasn't part of the protest which was organized by a Montreal radio station.

Some gays in the bar, which bills itself as a manly meat market, welcomed the women and chatted with them as they drank.

But a couple accused the women of gay bashing and said they have a right to a place of their own.

The bar owner has said women have been banned since the establishment opened 11 years ago and he didn't see the fuss.

The owner should be able to decide how to run the establishment. There is a double standard where men can't have "men only" organizations (or it's much harder to establish), but women can have such things.

Yes, why the fuck cant us men go to a gay bar in peace without women treating us like exibition peices?

Gays are so fucking intolerant though eh?

Last (and only time) I went in a shunters bar I got in a fight with a few perverts and the bouncer asked very nicely that I leave..

marx if i ever went there i would, but why would i want to go to a gym full of women? yuck,

besides, i cant imagine a gym like that would manage to keep running, having cut away 50% of its potential customers, dont they understand economics??

It should be legal to have men or woman only establishments if the property owner specifically focuses on such a audience. If someone has a problem with it they can go elsewhere.
If it's illegal then this should also fully apply to women. So no women only establishments whatsoever.

I don't see anything wrong with men or women having male or female only establishments. What is so bad about the idea that men may want to go somewhere that they can be men and not have to worry about what some woman is going to complain about? Bars have ladies nights. There are women only gyms. Women only conferences and groups. Would it absolutely kill women to let men have just a few places where we can just be us out of the scrutiny of female eyes.

Pardon my ignorance here but exactly what stops men having men only establishments if women only establishments exist? If sexual equality is enshrined in law now why the double standard? If there is an injustice perceived by men then why don't men do something about it, to redress the balance, face the issue straight on? If men allow these perceived injustices to exist then who is to blame if it isn't men themselves? Are women that scary that men dare not oppose them for God's sake? Are women the sole law makers? Are the Family Courts run only by women? Are the entire judiciary females? Do womn control everything in Government? Why don't men stand up and demand their civil rights if they think they don't have them? I don't believe they do but I just want to know why most men are so bloody apathetic and accepting. That makes me so mad.

Yip, we haev been programmed to believe that women need protection, need safety, need to be able to get away from us dreadful men..

Yet, they wont give us our space..

And we think the law is the only thing that will correct this?

Nah..

we can easily create our own "men only" clubs..

Just ignore the law!
