Bavaria's most glamorous politician -- a flame-haired motorcyclist who helped bring down state premier Edmund Stoiber -- has shocked the Catholic state in Germany by suggesting marriage should last just 7 years.

Gabriele Pauli, who poses on her web site in motorcycle leathers, is standing for the leadership of Bavaria's Christian Social Union (CSU) -- sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) -- in a vote next week.

She told reporters at the launch of her campaign manifesto on Wednesday she wanted marriage to expire after seven years and accused the CSU, which promotes traditional family values, of nurturing ideals of marriage which are wide of the mark.

"The basic approach is wrong ... many marriages last just because people believe they are safe," she told reporters. "My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years."

That's feminist speak right there. Forcing marriages to end by default after 7 years is rediculous. It should end whenever a couple decide to end it. Such a suggestion is another attempt to create a wide divide between men and women with more government involvement, control in private matters (feminism is a political ideology).

What's the fucking point if it expires? The idea is for it to last forever. Just have a relationship otherwise.

It's just one more way to undermine the institution of marriage. Ofcourse, we all know this would never pass, but the fact that someone in politics would even suggest it devalues marriage. What is supposed to be a sacred lifelong commitment gets reduced to something paltry with very little meaning....just what the feminists have been trying to reduce it to for years.

I can see her feminist logic shining through. It is devoid of any understanding of men.

Men sacrifice and build for futures. The well being and safety of hearth and home, wife and kids, is the driver of civilisation and it is men, with their gaze forward to an umlimited future which do the striving needed to provide and develop.

She sees woman being able to take their share of his efforts and scarper after seven years, running off into the sunset with the fruits of his labour and into the bed of a newer model slave. An attractive option for greedy, self-centred women.

But why would men strive at all if all he could see looming up, is dispossession?

When women say 'Forever' I wonder just what goes through their head.

I think with what I have noted about women.. "Forever" means at the most 4 years... 7 years is perhaps the male version of it!

well we've all heard of the seven year itch... so i guess this is her way of way of making 'socially' acceptable for women in that situation (I say women because they are the primary instigators of divorce) to walk away without any feeling of guilt.
