Rebekah Brooks, the Editor, was the head honcho behind the sleaze.

We all know her better, of course, as Rebekah Wade, misandrist, Feminist, DOMESTIC ABUSER.

She who punched her husband in the face whilst he was holding their baby.

She wasn't prosecuted. Of course.

Rebekah Brooks has resigned from her position at News International, finally laying to rest the argument over whether she would actually do the best thing for Rebekah Brooks.

After seeing 500 people lose their jobs, Brooks’ decision to leave her role at the head of the ailing organisation comes about fifteen minutes after the FBI announced an investigation into the illegal activities which took place under her command.

One media analyst explained, “She’s taken a long hard look at the situation and decided that resigning right now is the right thing to do, for Rebekah Brooks.”

“And you have to say this is the right thing to do if you’re Rebekah Brooks. Those FBI folks don’t mess about – she won’t be able to pay them off any time soon.”

The timing of the resignation has come as a surprise to many who thought she might go and try to save the paper she worked for.

Analyst Simon Williams explained, “I’m sure she thought sacrificing the careers of those who worked at the News of The World was enough to keep the business gods happy, but clearly not.”

“Right now, the decent thing to do for Rebekah Brooks is to get Rebekah Brooks as far away from this toxic situation as you can possible get her. And that’s what Rebekah Brooks has done here.”

“Criticise her all you like, but every decision she’s made since this whole controversy began has been for the benefit of Rebekah Brooks, and there’s not many people you can say that about.”

And for all to witness as the world is a much better place when women are in charge..

Never mind the high pretence of naming itself "NEWS OF THE WORLD" as it was a newspaper full of xenophobia news, particularly against the European Union, and all other social phobias such as misandry. It used to crawl out of the street gutterevery weekend, to regurgitate all sort of subterfuge, misleading information, and politically confuse the people which itself assumes it represents. It certainly never represented me. Their stupid high moral campaigns were so hypocritical that it insulted the very people the campaign was to help.
The only question here is, why it took so long? the answer is because politicians were too scare to do anything without risking their careers being destroyed by its publications.
News International is largely responsible for the anti-european feeling in the UK., always exagerating bad news and demeaning the good ones.
What happened is of their own doing, and its self destruction to be celebrated.
The UK. is now and forth culturally richer!!!

For those with access to Sky News, Rebekah Brooks is due to appear before MPs (live) on the Commons Culture Committee next Tuesday (14.30 GMT) where she'll hopefully face some stiff questioning and squirm somewhat.

The demise of NOTW just means that millions of impressionable readers will be deprived of a lowbrow rag, and maybe some will migrate to new media sources where more critical thinking is required.

I'm no fan of Murdoch, but the leftist media led by the BBC, in collusion with the Labour party, have seized upon this hacking scandal as opportunity to stick many knives into the News International beast and diminish the right-wing influence. One can choose not to buy Murdoch's papers or not subscribe to Sky, but if people refuse to pay the BBC licence, they can be arrested and even imprisoned. That's the difference.

An essential distinction indeed. Having to pay for channels that broadcast crap (and public channels that are funded through tax do broadcast allot of junk that is not worth seeing) is already unethical as it is. Being forced to pay for channels that broadcast heavily ideologic crap truly crosses the boundaries.

At last, she's finally been arrested!

Let's hope the police do a thorough job and these numerous arrests aren't just a public relations exercise, given how the police themselves are implicated in corruption linked to the hacking scandal.

It seems Brooks is taking legal advice whether she should appear before the Commons Culture Committee on Tuesday. Expect further wriggling and evasive maneuvering from this slimiest of journalistic snakes.

Rebekah Brooks was today sensationally arrested on suspicion of phone hacking and corruption.

The 43-year-old, who quit as chief executive of News International on Friday, was detained at a London police station at 12pm after arriving for a pre-arranged appointment.

Ms Brooks's spokesman confirmed her arrest and said that she was co-operating with police inquries into the scandal which closed the News of the World.

The development throws serious doubt on her appearance before a parliamentary select committee set to examine the affair on Tuesday.

Her arrest is not to be celebrated because it comes at a time when she is in need to spill out the beans as little as possible. The timing of her arrest benefits everyone involved in this debacle of a gutter press.

She can not be forced to say anything by anyone, least of all a parliamentary committe, because of the ongoing police investigation lest it may prejudice the outcome. Hence, her appearance in the committe to answer questions which she is legally prevented to answer, makes it a pretty much waste of time.

Just another legal device to avoid to be accountable for her actions, or lack of it.

That's where the growing demands for a judge-led inquiry, where attendance is mandatory and oaths are sworn, will hopefully cut through the chess moves currently being employed. Tomorrow's committee hearing is just a probing prelude to that 'inevitability.'

The timing of this death seems decidedly dodgy, although the police are saying they're treating it as unexplained, but not suspicious. But then the police themselves are deeply immersed in this hacking scandal with accusations of widespread corruption. Even Rebekah Brooks (then Wade) stated back in 2003 at another Committee hearing that the News of the World routinely paid police officers for information (which she later recanted after legal advice).

The man who launched the entire phone hacking scandal was found dead yesterday.

Ex-News of the World reporter Sean Hoare had accused former Tory media chief Andy Coulson of lying about his role in the affair.

He said that when editor of the paper, Mr Coulson actively encouraged his staff to intercept the calls of celebrities. It was his explosive claims last autumn which reignited the scandal and ultimately led to the tumultuous events of the past fortnight which have shaken the political, police and media establishments.

Also, in the last 24hrs, Sir Paul Stephenson, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, tended his resignation on Sunday evening. Followed today by John Yates, Assistant Commissioner (Britain's chief counter-terrorism officer).
