Chantal Hamel says her troubles at work began because, as a Muslim woman, she could not shake hands with any man who was not a member of her family.
In a complaint before the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal, Ms. Hamel said that this is why RSVP Customer Care Centres fired her after only six days at the telemarketing operation earlier this year.
In a ruling released this week, a tribunal member rejected a bid by the company to dismiss the complaint, calling for additional submissions by next month.
