Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
Follow up question: which do you feel falls more in line with our cultures expectations of a "traditional male."

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
This is a poorly conceived poll. Mike Tyson is a multiple predicate felony offender and is certified mentally ill (BiPolar Disorder). Mr. Nice Guy versus The Ear Biter = nollo contendere.

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
Fred Rogers never served in the military. That is a myth. Just as he was a child molester pre AND post his show was/is.
Why is it that when a soft-spoken mellow man is in the spotlight, people (the myth makers) tend to creat some dark evil past or somesuch? It's like they cannot handle the idea of a MAN holding "female traits" so they must make him out to have some hidden dark secret. Such as a hired killer (military sniper I believe the rumor was), a molester, hated children in actuality, was tatoo-ladened, was gay... you name it....
Sickens me.

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
Just as there is nothing wrong with being a big strong man, there is nothing wrong with being like Mr. Rogers. Does Mr. Rogers have to lift weights all day and grow a goa-t to be respected for being a man?
Although there is nothing wrong with being a big strong man, there is something wrong with Mike Tyson.
Thus far the poll results have said good things about this site.
I think Mr. Rogers was a damn good guy and a good representation of a man.
I would say the same thing of Steve Irwin, who certainly was not "effeminate."
Femininity and masculinity are cultural constructs.

So say the feminists and it is sure an easier route to just parrot them than to delve deep into yourself to find that source of your own masculinity that you can mine, refine and Honour.Femininity and masculinity are cultural constructs. When in need of a drink to fill the soul

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
There is of course such a thing as masculinity and femininity. I think he meant they are a cultural construct in that they change depending on the time period. What is considered masculine today might not be tomorrow.
The majority of what is defined as masculinity has been determined by women and serves women.
There probably is an inherent masculinity but much has been defined by women's need and in that sense masculinity does need to be redefined.

I don't know who Mr. Rogers is - I'm assuming it's some American thing. I didn't vote for him, but I just wanted to say that Mike Tyson was, at one point, a really amazing athlete; I take no pleasure from the fact that he has become such a dope.

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
More masco-mccarthyism. If you want me to take your seriously, you'll knock it off.
The only reason most feminists are liberals is because most feminists are pro-choice people. That's pretty much it. feminism is not liberalism. The reason most MRA's are conservative is because most MRA's are pro-life. Abortion, regardless of how you stand on it, is not a gender issue, so anyone who equates feminism with liberalism or conservativism with masculinism shouldn't be taken seriously.
It is the viewpoint that masculinity and feminity are natural ideas that make misandry possible. Misandry is not possible if we think of men and women as being equally human and having more similarities than differences. Masculinity is fake. Feminity is fake.
Be human.

Re: Mike Tyson or Mr. Rogers?
I just think that men and women should be whatever they damn well feel like being. It is totally ignorant to say there is something wrong with Mr. Rogers, or that he was not a "real man" because he is calm, pleasant and nice.
Now as far as masculinity being real, consider this...
Who is this totally "unmanly" guy depicted with this sculpture? This is the mighty Hercules. If Hercules walked down the street looking like that today he would be called a "gaywad" a "queer" and everything else. Hercules was the perfect symbol of "manhood" in both greek and roman mythology.
Anything masculine or feminine comes from culture. It is just as conceivable that men would be wearing eyeliner and skirts, sipping their drinks with their pinky raised and crossing their legs as women if our cultural histories had been a little different. Women could just as likely be the one's spitting tobacco. Most "gender distinctions" come from culture. They are just silly cultural constructs that should be entirely ignored.
Feminity is negative. Masulinity is negative. Be human.
All "masculine men" are trying to be that way so they can fit in with society. It's fake.
