I thought it was a great result. This will make it difficult now to push through the health care reform, but it's also a sign of voters disillusionment with Obama only a year into his presidency.

Re: a republican in ted kennedy's seat

A republican in Ted Kennedy's seat?

Well, to folks who believed it was Ted Kennedy's seat it means blaming it on El Nino,
Bush, and those damned people that walk the walk of the meritocracy ethic.

To the vast majority of "Republican" professional politicians, it means "Whew, we can just rest on our laurels and ride the wave"

To "progressives", it's a battle cry to re-interpret history, convince their dupes that a tinkle down their leg is REALLY a tingle up the leg, and find a NEW target-with-money to brand evil empire, and attempt justification to simply take THEIR cash, without debate, and assign approved representatives of ""We the (vast minority of) People in office of the Democratically elected Republic. No change.

To yellow journalism news "editors", it means "Brown enables the deaths of MILLIONS,
Most Mortal Americans NOW expected to DIE (um...eventually). Women and Children hardest hit, followed in order by Gays, Negros, Mexicans, and Haitians."

To ME, it means the stock market will take a bump up and..., OH SHIT!, The President "spoke" again. Market dove lower than the gains made on the bet that Pharma, Insurance, and "new" Social experiments,
wouldn't be redistributing EVERYBODYS "extra" investment/retirement cash in mandatory progroms "...for our health".(sic)

Guess I'll just have to go for gub'mint "managed" dole at age 55 after all. I expect to be
paid to maintain "...the lifestyle to which I've become accustomed", in this separation from my liberty to choose, what with me being being the primary caretaker of my estate and all.

Oh, wait. I'm a convicted Angry (old)White Male.
That's OK, I LIKE Ensure/cat food. Tobasco Sauce makes ANYTHING palatable. Hope there's not TOO much salt in it to qualify it as forbidden food product (runny eggs, trans fat, non free-range meat, MSG, non-union/non-imported/non-engineered produce) for...um...my gub'mint administered "health" strategy.

Of course the Kennedy Aristocracy 'owned' the seat in the age-old traditional way that America was supposed to have dispensed with by Revolution. I guess that worked out well for Americans, didn't it.

As for the effect of losing it to the Republicans it seems to mean that American Health will continue to slip down the charts from its current position which is just below Bosnia circa 1954.

Americans seem to be hysterical about 'Socialised medicine' but turn a blind eye to socialised fire departments and police departments, not even remembering the socialised Defence forces. Talking of which the service guards at Guantanamo Bay get a lower quality of health service than the prisoners they are guarding, those prisoners getting the only 'socialised', totally free and very high quality health care in America.

The whole health debate there is Nuts.
