Magna Carta anniversary. MP Eleanor Laing

The main pilar of Great Britain democracy is approaching its 800th birthday!!!!!

That is something this country can be very proud of enshrining men fundamental rights. It is notable in this document that it contains all the rights found in Human Rights Act 1996, which gives force of law to the articles of the European Convention of Human Rights.

Yes! the British thought of it first!!!

Why politicians believe they need a new Bill of Rights is a mistery!

The Uk's. citizens human rights are well catered for by a myriad of laws, not least the Magna Carta. However, the courts is infested with enemies of people's rights. It can be seen by a daily stream of men and fathers, walking out of court enraged at how judges are continuosly stomping on their rights.

Yes! it is somewhat ironic, isn't it?

Quote Quote from Mrs Eleanor Laing (Epping Forest) (Con)
The German ambassador, when asked recently about the salience of Magna Carta, responded, “Magna Carta is known to everyone in Germany as the foundation of democracy—it is in the school syllabus.” What a pity it is not in our school syllabus.
I completely agree. I have always considered the 1297 Carta to have more legal relevance but whether one agrees with that or not, the 1215 Carta is undoubtedly the foundation of modern democracies for about a third of the world's population. I think I was taught about it in school but only very young, far too young to really grasp the meaning and importance. My children were not taught about it at all, which is sad and stupid.

Hey Douglas!!! that's the British establishment for you!!!! still unhappy at the loss of their "percieved" rights to make everyone else their servants. They don't like to fuss about it. It is understandable if we consider what happened to most kings throughout Europe.
Remember Spain's Franco? That was one trouble too close for comfort.
Alas, your children as well as mine will learn all about it as long as there's people who are prepared to teach them of their rights!
