Introducing" series of books (formally "Beginners Gudie to....")

While at a flea market over the summer I bought some second hand books from the "Introducing" series. The series was originally called the "Beginners Guide to", now they call themselves "Introducing" or "Graphic Guide to". These are B5 sized books, @ 180 pages long, based primarily on a graphic/cartoon form of explainig heavy topics. Each book covers a specific topic like Philosophy, June, Psychology, Post Modernism, Time, Ethics, Nietzsche, as well as dozens of other topics.

If you have not come across these books, I recommned them, as they contain many arguements that we can use in our movement. For example I picked up the copy on Post Modernism and I now better understand the third wave feminists and why they are at odds with older feminists), as well as the way our modern reality often appears and why we sometimes become "hyper conscious". 20 years ago when I was writing my phd, Post modernism was heavy stuff, now its nice to see a straigthtforward book on the topic that really explains a lot about our post cold war culture and reality and why society is ripping up the past traditions, in a form that everyone can understand. etc.

These books can be bought very cheaply new or second hand on ABE books wherever you are in the world (for example a new edition with worldwide postage is just GBP5/USD8! from one Gurnsey based seller)

Perhaps someone (Percy?) should consider writing an "Men Movement" title which could be added to the series? With modern "print only on demand" technology a publisher does not need to print any editions, as copies are printed on demand (even with USD 8 per new copy with world wide postage!). These would make an excellent media to get our message out. And yes, I think the publisher would add a Mens Movement title to the series if he got a serious proposition as they have a Feminism and Post Feminist titles in the series and are looking to expand their series. With "print on demand" technology the costs of launching such new title are not high. The format of these books give them excellent propaganda value. A picture is worth a thousand words!

Heres the link to ABE books (a worldwide internet netwrok of booksellers) if you want to buy new or used copies cheaply (via traditional booksellers copies are typically GBP10/USD 17).

    They look useful, Richard.

As for me writing one for the Men's Movement, I have to give that a pass so as not make matters worse.

I have written several books. I post bits of my Weapons of Mass Distraction here from time to time and my Femibird Book for Kiddies on the Fire Station at Piddlewick Green was a hit here a while back. I wrote that for another member here to illustrate and he made a start - but then he disappeared. I nearly sold a copy.

But my other books were all filthy. No publisher would dare to print them. There is smut and there is Percy's smut. Even Literotica can put up Denise Noe's stuff ( a lady member here some time back) but they simply sent me a threatening letter saying I would lower the tone of the site. Need I say more.

Yeah yeah Percy, you KNOW you would be the right man for the job.

In 1989 as the Czech police began to beat up demonstrators and the revolution began to hang in the balance, a slogan echoed across students (who formed the vanguard of the czech revolution) - "If not us, who, if not now, when?"

Seriously, it would make a very interesting project and get the AM message out more widely and enter mainstream culture. Of course you dont have to work alone on such a project, and you could use any name you wish - I am sure on literotica, you could fine some interesting propostions (-:

As an aside, I think the series here in the US is "Idiot's Guide to..." Unless I'm thinking of something completely different..

NO, in the US they are published by Totem books and called "Introducing"

    T
he idiots guide series is much much lower down the food chain. The "Introducing" series are often found on university reading lists in the UK.
