The Sword Of Shannara Movies
My girlfriend is a fan of these books, and she pointed this out to me thinking it would be ideal for this website.
It's the fact that although it's a series of books, the movies are to be made starting from the 2nd book rather than the 1st, the reason for this is given by Terry Brooks, here's a quote;
The first book has no female characters, therefore it's to be ignored, skipped to the second.Question: Is there a way we fans can express our longing to start with The Sword of Shannara?
Answer: You are welcome to express your longing anytime. What I hear at this point, at least, is that studio interest is on the second book, The Elfstones of Shannara. Why would that be? Well, here are a few thoughts. Elfstones has stronger female characters, a better mix of men and women roles for actors and actresses. That will help with finding names to come aboard. It will also have some impact on the target audience. A mix of male and female characters has a better chance at attracting a larger spread of interest. You might remember that Peter Jackson enhanced the female roles in LotR enormously, probably for that very reason.
When she pointed this out to me, sad to say, I wasn't a bit surprised, not especially since a similar thing was done with Narnia.

Re: The Sword Of Shannara Movies
I don't agree I'm a girl and I've read the first book and the second one yeah the first one dose not have any girl characters but so its a good book and it would still make a good movie I would so go to see it in the theater even my father said it should be a movie and besides you can't start on the second one no one would understand what was going on and they would now who Flick was or who Allanon was the or even Shea and they talk about these characters in the second book and Allanon is part of the second book of corse and in my opinion no one would go see a movie that they didn't know what was going on or who they were talking about the whole time it wouldn't make sense. And there are plenty of movies that don't have very many female characters and the book dose mention some females like the elven girl they talk about they yeah they don't have any female characters that are in the action until the second one but still the books were written as a series and they need to be made in to movies that way People that have read the book and loved it would agree I think I read the book four time before I had to get it fixed my dad gave it to me to read years ago and I still haven't given it back I love it so much. Even my math teacher likes it every one in my family likes it and they agree with me that you can't skip the first and go to the second one people that have read the series would be very up set that you just jump over the first one the first book is different from the second one but it has a good story line and a good plot and the characters are very well rounded at least give it a try. I've been hoping some one would make it in to a movie so you can imagine how upset I was when I heard they were going to skip the first book and go right to the second one. I think the first one is better then the second one personally. I just hope you take what I have to say in to account when you make the movie or if you make the movie okay thank.
