Question PC,what does it mean to you?

    Hey folks,
I'm sure we all know what we are talking about here.
It means that you can't use nasty words for the lesser people in our society.
Before all this BS showed up, we had fat people, short people, handi-capped people, etc.

The question I ask, is where the hell did this crap start?
I would seem to think that the UN had a part in this BS-speak, they seem to want to BAN everything that is fun.

    Your ideas, please?

Words are simple symbols. They have precision. Their meanings have common understanding.

But using them 'offends' the bizzare sensibilities of some neurotics who 'attach' quite irrelevant associations. often on behalf of other neurotics; and other people wish to sew confusion, dissembling and mendacity.

It is distorting our perception of reality.

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.

Re: PC,what does it mean to you?

political correct speach is hobbled speach it is hobbled by those that want to control free expresson so that only approved expression is tolerated

it warps the standard meaning and usageof words to confound clear thinking eg a man is designated a male chauvinistic pig by chauvinistic feminits and queers and other malcontents

it is the mode of speach that the USSR and other totalitarian states communicated/communicate with

it subverts objective thinking and identifies those that are not politically correct for special treatment - eg failing ones degree not being promoted or villified in the press or worse ( read about the politically incorrect Pauline Hanson in Australia and the malice the powers that be heaped upon this courageous and outspoken woman) she was actually gaoled on a pretext

just recently Pauline was denounced as a slut in a purported photograph supposedly shot by a former boyfriend - the media seized on this with relish but in the end she was vindicated and is now suing the lying media bastards for $$$$$$$$$$$$

political corrrectnes is a cancer on free thinking and action and favoured by overbearing and controlling movements like feminitism

No, we have a Chief Fire Officer for that role, he is the sole person that is allowed to talk to the Media, I have spoken on the fire-ground as a senior officer, to the media, that was the first and last time I ever did that, they twisted my words so far, it wasn't funny.

When I was a lad, there was this common saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me"..

Which is actually true, but I guess folk found a way of profitting from any imagined hurt and folk could also profit politically from riding off the backs (and votes) of those victims they created, hence, we now live in a world of political correctness, which is nothing other than orwellian newspeak in the way that it differentiates and grades folk on their abilities to "know the rules of language" as they change to suit..

I never fail to be unimpressed by the poor levels of reasoning, grammar, and general common sense and intelligence of many in the MRM..

It is often these folk who most need to be aware of the rules of political correctness..

Lets face it, if you are inarticulate, stupid and dumb, you will naturally PROFIT from the protection of political correctness, so it makes sense to use it!

Personally, I dont rate political correctness, though I use it myself at times because there are so many pussified wimps around who cant differentiate between the Bull and the Shit that it aint worth the effort upsetting them..

You get this amazing paradox at times, politically correct groups that like to cherry pick just which aspects of "the PC code" they want to follow..

Sorry, if you wanna be PC, you have to be FULLY PC..

So, dont go asking for "equality" then at the same time go and slam into homosexuals and lesbians..

It just makes one look rather foolish!

I would have to be the lowest of low to make fun of you and your brothers in the force. But....

Didn't you see my hand to help in the brigade? I think westie men have a chance to fall into the hard man category as you south islanders. They are not interested! End of story.

Hey, if I even tried in Taupo, they would have put me first on hose practice. I would have flown right across the road.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I get magazines hassling me like North and South. I won't discuss anything unless it is online so my words are real. Some don't want my say after that. I think sometimes even the men's movement forgets that most of these professionals quoted in newspapers were not only quoted wrong but that they never said the stuff to begin with nor agree with the article.

That is why it is important to have one person head of media. That way the media realises they have a power to reckon with.

I just use women so I can educate them but one time recently I was quoted on stuff.co.nz and the men went silly because they wanted to be contacted.

    .......

Now I have exiting times with the students doing thesis'. They are on single parents and I get contacted for a say. I send the female social workers to Glenn Sack's site saying, "Here is some information you don't learn in school" .... but I want to get involved personally with the architect students who are designing ways for government housing.

I guess I think it is politically correct for you to say there is a toxic spill and to evacuate the area.

I just know that we have a law preventing anyone from speaking up about male suicide. The media is under law not allowed to say a lot of things.

Political correctness is the linguistic doctrine whereby the private thoughts of the people and the right to free speech are impugned on with ease.

It was crafted to do so in order to limit resistance against our current totalitarian regime.

Re: PC,what does it mean to you?

Politically correct speech is a construct meant to divide people, preventing them from having truthful, meaningful conversations over important matters.

It's like a magician's slight-of-hand trick. 'Look at this interesting, but irrelevant fight over there! But don't look in this direction or you'll discover the trick. It's all about control from the top down so the people in power can distract us all from the serious important things going on in the world.

I think it came about because we as a species have populated the earth far beyond anyone's imaginations. The people in power are scared. They have the power, but we have the numbers. They must keep us divided for their own safety and continuation of their priveledge.

But what do I know. I just accidentally burned a hole in my t-shirt with a cigarette.

Improper stigmatisation of norms in language to a broad scale just because of certain sensibilities in certain situations and contexts. Don't like it at all.

It's discrimination on language, prohibiting its various uses. It promotes close mindedness, where arguments are swept aside just because it is un-PC in nature, logic and rationality will not be acknowledged.

That's exactly how I would describe PC, but I do want to add that the miserable thing of PC is that something only is(n't) PC if the media etc states so.

A pretty memorable instance of PC gone through the roof in the Netherlands is this:

Here we have a chocolate snack that was called 'negerzoen', 'neger' is Dutch for niger erm... the N-word I mean (now, that's PC I geuss...). Anyway, some people felt they had to feel insulted at the term nigger in a snack's name and it got blown up by the media and the name had to be changed (wich really happened too, not sure what the name is at the moment though).
Now, the problem I have with this PC case is that niger is nothing more but the latin word for a person with a darker skin, so what's the inherent discrimination in that as PC is suggesting? None, what matters is the context words are used in.
Now we also have a meatsnack called gypsie schnitzels here, the Dutch equivalent of gypsie, 'zigeuner' for instance, finds it's origins in the german words for 'traveling thief' wich means the word is by default scolding or discriminating. Yet you don't hear anybody about that? Why is it that a normal word is considerd discriminative and a stigmatizing one a normal word? That is simply what PC is.

Also, wether a comment is PC or not depends also on WHO tells something and this is just even more hypocryte. We all know for instance that if a man rants about women (justified) he's about to be verbally teared to shreds for being a mysoginist. Yet when a woman would come up with the same story, odds are other women's jaws would drop to the ground. Same with the N-word, if a white person says niger, everybody is already on about calling it discrimination, yet black people themselves refer to each other like 'hey nigga!' and then it's acceptable. The thing is again, it is the context that matters, not the person that speaks a certain word.

Re: PC,what does it mean to you?

Jools, your post @#4 could easily be seen as twisting meaning. You divert the intent of the question about PC and bring in extraneous issues of firemen. And what is this 'lesser' people bizzo? And 'sending people into a panic? What has that got to do with it?

Once upon a time people used good manners to protect people from undue insensitivity, but now the PC brigade impose sanctions often backed by legal punishment.

The initial impact of PC had a direct sexism intent. It demeaned anything even supposedly masculine or traditional. For example, traditional English had the masculine word apply to all human beings, so 'he' embraced 'she'. It was never a discriminatory means of expression. Chairman - as another example - came from the Norman version of old French from which the Main - hand - was truncated in speech to 'man'. It had nothing to do with males.

Up to PC time, there were many words in English, particularly related to professions and jobs, which gave acknowledgement to women. Words like Actress and Poetess, seamstress and tailoress. These were not and never intended to be sexist, but rather a simple acknowledgement of the sex of the person and distinguishing her contributions from those of men. Quite reasonable. PC attempted not ony to eradicate distinctions but blame men for having them in the first place. No one bothered to look to see who had started the linguistic trend but a cursory glance at literature would have shown that it was women who first used the 'ess' as a distinguishing suffix. Again, quite reasonably.

As for the racial issues, few, if any, people like the names used to describe them. Nigger, Pom, Limey, Honkey, Spick, Nip whatever. But no PC lover ever criticised the black woman when she uses 'honkey'. Racism is a one-way street it seems. It is sheer hypocricy. An Islamist can call for the murder of Christians - and carry out such murders - but no one is allowed to call Islam murderous. That's 'demeaning' it seems. Tell that to the murdered Christians.

PC is a Feminist tool for blaming and shamng men. It has spread in typical femi-hysterical fashion to many feilds so that they can 'control' and at the same time continue to blame and shame.

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
