A 23 yo mother of a 5 months old baby boy cut his penis and balls off using a pair of scissors because the mother would rather want a daughter. Grandma discovered and rushed him to the hospital.

The mother preferred to have daughter ever since the couple met over a year ago when the husband went to town for work. After giving birth to the boy, the mother was still obsessed with her preference and had been maltreating the new born (3 days into his life, he had been suffering slapping and other torture by his mum. The father stated that his wife thinks that a boy would be a huge burden to their life because they would have to buy a house for him to be able to get a wife (which is very common, for a chinese male to own a house/apartment before a chinese women (or her family) would agree to marry him.) when he grow up.

The day it happened, the mother wanted to kill the baby boy by suffocating him using a pillow on his bed but was discovered by the grandma. Failed to grab the baby from his mum, grandma then rushed to the police. When they returned to the home, they heard the baby crying vigorously. The injury was too serious to be heal-able/recoverable.

Doctor verified that the mother is suffering from mania symptoms and might well be in a state of schizophrenia when she committed the crime. The mother was sentenced to 5 years in jail.
