    Dance

I didn't know where to open this thread because it doesn't really fit any category, but since dancing is done on music, I decided to do it here.

Anyway, dancing or watching dance makes me feel at peace. I'm teaching ballroom now twice a week and it is pretty fun - there's a class of small kids and one of waltz for weddings. Both can be pretty endearing in a way because the couples usually are really happy together and the kids are a joy to be around with. Anyway, here are some videos of dancing people:

This guy is really pleasant to watch.

I really miss doing this in competitions. It was really fun.

    Something more than basic.

I don't know, maybe I love dance because I can fully express myself through it, emotions that I can't talk or express with words...

    Re: Dance

I can´t dance....beside the discofox....earning me the nickname Disco-Fox-Feckless. Slightly worse than Beautiful-Eyes-Feckless but well....

Fits like a fist on the eye:

    Evolution of dance:

The men's and fathers' movement needs to make sure it never sees females as the enemy,
but only misandry--whether from females or from males.
If not, we'll become like the bigoted feminists that this movement was formed to oppose.

    Re: Dance

My sister is into this traditional dance thingie. According to her this is all just about the alcohol. I am always surprised how far arround the globe they go and how many people come to our place dancing. China, India and Romania comes to mind. The ones from China were apparently the ones that could drink the least ("but were soooo cute" (my sister saying)).

    Re: Dance

    I do not dance.

I like to watch ballet from time to time and really top-class well choreographed modern dance, especially if it is 'athletic', but ballroom dancing just does not appeal to me at all. The chaps all look 'Nancy'.

Disco dancing, even R&R looks and 'feels' damned silly.

There was a long period of film-making, largely from America, where people would suddenly break into dancing every other five minutes. Even friggin' cowboys. They all looked bloody silly.

I once contemplated joining a Morris Dancing troop as a chap can whack others with a stick or better still with a pig's baldder on the end of a stick, but its a bit unseemly for a Knight, what with all those bells on one's ankles.

    Re: Dance

I once saw a documentary about the Romanian Olympic Gymnastic Team which was out of a job when the regime collapsed. They had all been gymnasts since they were three or four. A couple of American guys recruited the lot of them and trained them do modern dance.

They all, men and women, had beautiful bodies and could do the most amazingly beautiful and seemingly impossible things with them with grace and power. It was a joy to watch them.

They went to America on tour and every audience that saw them was astounded.

Ballroom dancing is so elegant! I know no dances like those but would love to learn.

I belly-dance. It's...quite a bit different than ballroom dancing. I like it because it keeps my abdominal muscles strong and it's fun, and it has an element of sensuality to it.

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

    Re: Dance

Percy, I like ballroom over ballet because when you compete at ballroom, you can be happy and smile. Also, ballet has a slight masochistic side to it, but I won't go into it.

TERA, yes, dancing is really good at keeping someone fit. I used to be fat as a kid, but I lost it all when I started dance and then gained a bunch when I quit before I started playing basketball in HS and working out.

Yes, ballet is very demanding. Frankly I like it for the grace of the women. And their costumes usually look lovely. The blokes look poncy and their cod-pieces are protesting too much.

So, how are you announced when you take to the dance-floor? "Ladies and Gentlemen let's hear it for the fat kid from Romania, the ugly duckling who turned into a Swan". And you put it down to dancing. You could make a small fortune pushing that one with so many obese kiddies waddling around.

I was ugly in elementary. I had this crush on a guy and he ignored me for years. Funny enough, now I'm good looking and he became fat and unattractive. If he only knew... :P

Zuberi, you don't have to be amazing to do it. Usually you can learn the basics in ballroom in like an year in all the dances. Getting really good takes a lot longer though.

    Re: Dance

Dancing is cool but I don't like looking like a goofball while doing it. I suppose, I only like looking like a goofball when I'm not dancing.
When I do this, and I know I will, it will be comparable to the lame learning to walk, the blind being enabled to see and the suffocated breathing again. The sky isn't the limit; there are no limits.
