I saw avengers with my bros and we enjoyed every bit of it.

I took my younger sons to see it because they wanted to and special effects are truly maginificent (especially in 3D) and they enjoyed the illusion. They were happy that dad suitably entertained them for an afternoon while mother went shopping.
The plot is absolute crap and blatant propaganda. The chick-flick, kick-ass woman can defeat men men twice her size. A rich man in a technology-advanced jet-suit can put the world to rights. The "Captain America" figure in his spangly uniform gets bounced around but he's still indestructible because his DNA is different. "The Hulk" is an intelligent scientist that turns into a green moron if he gets pissed off.
A+ for special effects. No grade whatsoever for insight or understanding. It's encourages mindless patriotism by implying that Americans have access to supernatual powerrs. Sugar for the masses in Disneyland. It was so pitifully self-obsessive that Hollywood will give it a high score. It's just so friggin' pitiful. Is that the best they can come up with? They must know their audience, or why spend so much money on obvious garbage?
