Even by the standards of Britain's red-hot property market, almost £1.9million for a studio flat sounds rather steep.
But the oligarchs, wealthy stars and "billionheirs" who buy one of the Four Seasons Ocean Residences will be securing a home on a remarkable floating resort.
The 112 flats - including penthouses costing £20 million - are aboard a 719ft, 42,500-tonne vessel designed by the same team that created the Queen Mary 2. The Four Seasons will cruise the globe, stopping off at locations from Antarctica to the Amazon.
Residents who don't fancy disembarking can enjoy the extensive on-board facilities.
The apartments - to be launched to a "selected audience" in London on Wednesday - are being sold off-plan because the ship is still under construction in Finland and is not scheduled for completion until 2010.
They range from a one-bedroom cabin for £1.9 million to a four-bedroom suite for £7.4 million. Each will be sold on a 50-year lease.
The top-end penthouses will also have four bedrooms and will cover three floors. All residents will also have to pay a service charge that starts at £52,500 a year.
Each residence will have floor-toceiling windows, a large terrace, "gourmet kitchen", master bedroomwith a walk-in dressing room - and a private entrance for staff.
The boat's itinerary features stops at the 2012 Olympics in London, the Rio Carnival and the Monaco Grand Prix.
Those staying on board will have the use of a spa and fitness centre, four restaurants, two shopping malls, a casino, gourmet market, business centre, wine cellar, putting greens and driving range.
The ship also has a helipad, a marina providing a ship-to-shore service and scuba expeditions and a launch for jet skis or sailboats.
Robert Oppenheim, managing director of the developer, BV International Ocean Holdings, said: "Four Seasons Ocean Residences will be the most grand and luxurious residential community at sea."
David Vaughan of Savills International, the project director, said: "It was decided to unveil Four Seasons in London because it is the centre of the world's rich and famous.
"We've already received an extraordinary range of enquiries from London and all over the world. "The people who have shown interest are a mixture of leading businessmen and women, oligarchs, sports celebrities and inherited wealth."

Hmmmm...

I recently put up a new house.

It cost a hundred pounds ($200) for the bamboo, thatch, nails and labour.

The reason it was so expensive is that it stands on concrete pillars rather than wooden ones. Otherwise it would have been half the price.

Still it's nice to push the boat out sometimes, isn't it?
