My husband and I are expecting, and we are having a grave disagreement regarding the matter of circumcision. My take on it is that it's a horrible thing to do to a child who has no choice in the matter. His take on it is that it's okay because it's just always been, and he doesn't want his son to be made fun of in the locker room - do guys honestly compare their *ahem* packages? He's also expressed that his family has just always done it - it's a tradition. I don't see what kind of horrid tradition it could possibly be to chop off part of your child??? Please help me out here. Is this a normal guy thing? Is there something I'm missing??

well, as a "cavalier" myself (in common with I guess the majority of blokes, certainly at my school where apart from the jewish boys I think only a handful were roundheads...) I think its completely unnecessary unless there is some "medical" reason.. A mate of mine who was "butchered" was always bemoaning his "long lost foreskin" and he resented his dad who put him on the slab for this genital mutilation.. We wrote a few poems about it, even set the LLF to music and even at the age of 23 he never got over that loss as a baby and that sense that his wanking was compromised by his nails scratching his shaft as he battled with the beef bassoon during our masturbation contests and other gentlemanly activities that caused a few of our fellow students to haev nervous breakdowns.. When he had a son himself, his wife suggested the hacking as good idea.. He went ballistic, no way was he going to deprive his son of his balaclava! Another mate of mine had what he called a "Decinis" (a tenth of penis), which he also called his "chipper" (a little version of a chopper)... He was proud of his "sleeping bag" which added another 2 vital inches to his appendage, thus doubling its length! ![]() the foreskin serves a protective function, as well as preserving the sensitivity of the glans, it also is a good way of getting blood on your pants as you zip up carelessly and trap the hoody in the YKK.. I had a serious motorcycle accident as a youngster, which has left an 8" scar down 2/3 of the length of my cattleprod, but thanks to my sheepsleeve, the scarring did not touch the glans and the banjo-string was not torn... So, Dont do it!! Your preplet can save your life!! (Its also useful for cultivating bacteria and generating cottage cheese substitutes for those ad-hoc picnics that lads like to feed ladies..)

By cottage cheese substance, I assume you're referring to smegma? Which, btw, is another one of those evils of not circumcising that my husband touts. But, isn't that just easily cleaned off with normal daily bathing?

My son had a brit milah (Jewish religious ritual circumcision) when he was 8 days old. I was standing right next to him when it was done, and he did not cry (the only time he cried was when the mohel, or ritual circumciser, removed his diaper.) He was given children's anesthesic med (Tylenol) an hour before, some wine on a swab right after, and he popped off to sleep not long after that. I have pictures taken during the ceremony and after, and he definitely did not look unhappy. Jewish women have in times past risked their very lives to make sure their sons received the brit milah, and I would have done the same, if G-d forbid, I were living in an historical antisemitic country , like, say, Tsarist Russia or Nazi Germany. That is how strongly we as a people believe in it, because it was the first command given us by G-d as a people, to seal the Covenant. However, I do not believe Gentiles should be circumcised. I feel for them to do so blurs the physical distinction between our peoples, and (at least in Europe), might make someone think someone is a Jew when they are not. This could lead to all sorts of problems and issues. I also feel that Gentile men remaining uncircumcised helps prevent intermarriage, because most Jewish women would not marry an uncircumcised man. Having said that, I want to mention that my husband converted to Judaism and had to be circumcised as an adult. He had been uncircumcised prior to that, and he tells me that he has not noticed any difference. there is a foreskin restoration website somewhere that is interesting! Smegma is easily cleaned off using ordinary soap and water, in the same way as fanny batter is washed off a fishtank.. Smegma does not build up when a gent has regular sex, as it is largely scraped off and depositted in the dickditch to join all the other nasty stuff, vaginosis, road side grit, stinging nettles, sand, lost panties, rabbits, etc.. A rough fleeced and sweet scented merino ewe is the ultimate luxury for that essential chore of de-cheesing the chopper..

I'm going to have to avoid this thread and its refs to smegma, since I have not had dinner yet, and I'd like to be able to!

I'm really wanting some serious, legitimate arguments that I can present to my husband re circumcision. Most of the articles I've located - including the ones that are written by doctors - he dismisses because "they're written by women. Women don't have penises," as though somehow this makes women less reliable sources for why mutilating a child is a bad idea. All I'm asking for is serious arguments from men on why this is a bad thing to do to a person.

Give him that article from one of the other threads about the boy who had most of the head chopped off. And put it back on him. "Because we've always done it that way" is not a good enough reason. Make him justify mutilating his son. The smegma argument isn't good, either. All you have to do is keep the little guy clean.
