Why having an older dad boosts brain disorder risk
lots more....A study in mice shows the offspring of older fathers have more genetic changes associated with autism and other brain disorders.
John McGrath of the Queensland Brain Institute and colleagues reported their findings Wednesday in the journal Translational Psychiatry.
"There's quite convincing evidence now that the offspring of older dads have an increased risk of a range of brain disorders like autism and schizophrenia and maybe even slightly lower IQ," said McGrath.
"Compared to men in their early 20s, the offspring of men over age 50 have a two-fold risk of getting schizophrenia or autism."

Re: Why having an older dad boosts brain disorder risk
I have only two comments on that research:
1. SHITE!
The other one?
2. SHITE!.
The original research was about mice for God's sake!
As one commentator said, if the risk increases from 0.001% to 0.002% that's double the risk.
So should all men over 25 be hiding under blankets or slitting their wrists in a warm bath. I don't think so.
Biologically speaking (and discounting all social and political factors) the best age for a woman to conceive her first child is 17.
Where are all the scientific studies, carefully edited to be acceptable to the mainstream media, that bluntly tell western women that building your 'important' career until you're nearly 40 and only then rushing to quiet the loud alarm signal of your biological clock, means that you've probably missed the last bus?
Research such as this is not objective science. It's driven by the undeniable fact that men retain their fertility well into old age and women do not. Feminists hate the hand that Nature dealt to women and will do anything in their power (they have lots of that - in western politics) to denounce it.
Playing with mice and extrapolating the results to the current western gender war is surely a "bridge too far".
The most important questions are:
1. Why do people read this crap?
The other one?
2. How is it funded?

This is my favorite quote from the comments: "Good research on the dangers of breeding with elderly mice."
Added after 43 minutes:
I can answer question #2.
The funding for the research comes from a variety of feminist mice groups with strong support from female Shrews who feel denigrated by Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew". An article in the Daily Field Mouse (October 10, 2010) details the struggle of female Mice and Shrews against a Patriarchal research methodology which affords more opportunities and pay to male research mice.
Sylvia Doormouse pointed to recent statistics that showed male mice get an average of 14% more food pellets and have a wider array of possible career choices. Sylvia elaborated the "glass panels" that prevent smart, and experienced female mice gaining the coveted cheese from the much desired "Maze Runner" Executive Level. "The males get the cheese and we get stuck raising our young" Sylvia lamented. "The males rumpy pumpy with all the young females and then go on to lead strong careers as research subjects, We have been discriminated against for hundreds of generations."
When asked about the large pay gap and career options for female mice, the aged Percy Winkelmouse responded "I don't see females working in the electrical plate box, nor the shock maze. Perhaps if they got off their arses and went to work things would change. It's not like they don't have the option. Yannow, a lot of our lads don't make it back from the shock maze, that's our lot in life. When I get a chance for the old in and out with a cute young squeaker, I'm going to take it."Last edited by The Possible Human; 1st-September-2011 at 08:36 PM. Reason: content auto merged

Re: Why having an older dad boosts brain disorder risk
Ever notice how older moms never increase the risk of any disease. They are presented as almost god-like.
Studies like these are suppost to be taken seriously??? They have got to be kidding
