    Men's Health Week 2009

Did you all know that 15-21 June is International Men's Health Week 2009? No? Then you are obviously still making the mistake of expecting the blinkered morons in the MSM to keep you informed of what's important.

So here's a much better tip: get a life. Seriously, more understanding of your health could save yours. Various events are lined up in different countries to make men and boys more aware of male-specific health risks, and to give their governments a hefty kick up the backside in the desperate hope that they might actually start addressing male health problems and provide us with medical and advisory services that come somewhere near the standard enjoyed by women and girls.

Here are some links that will give you a starting point:

    For Americans

    Oz:

    NZ:

    and for Brits:

    http://www.menshealthforum.org.uk/

    - where you can also do an on-line survey and maybe win a Wii. The survey is a bit lightweight and limited, as I took the trouble to tell them; but I also gave them a spiffing tip that ought to win me the prize. I can hardly wait.

men's health could take a quantum leap forward were men collectively to abandon their romantic notions about the modern squint - eyed flint - hearted feminit wimyn who dissemble their true character ( narcissist) until the CONTRACT is signed sealed n delivered into her mail box

Thumbs up Re: Men's Health Week 2009

    Paul,
Why am I laughing so hard?

(don't get me wrong, man, I'm not laughing at you)

Sure, a men's health week is a very good idea indeed, but, in all honesty, the mainstream media and most health groups here will pretty much ignore the message that is trying to be conveyed.

Hey, they are still bashing out the media campaign for the Cervical cancer vaccine here, they won't be too bothered with any campaign concerned with mens health worries.

Take for example, Movember, it was more less conveyed over the media here as something "quirky", I think in all the media reports I heard or saw, only about twice did I see "mens health" or "prostate cancer" mentioned.
Pretty much the way the reporting went was "look at these silly buggers growing facial hair" like they were some sort of bloody lepers or something.

But, when it's Breast cancer week, we get the full treatment, ribbons, overly-emotive ads, women talking about how they've suffered when their mother or daughter died of this ghastly disease.

In fact, I have a good mind to get a hold of the NZ Cancer Society and ask them what they will be doing during Mens Health week in this country and it had be pretty damned good!.

    Go for it MikeT.

I bet you have hardly challenged what the MRM says online.

I can't believe how many organizations in NZ want to talk to me.

    Do it.

the main body dealing with cancer issues in the UK is "Cancer Research UK". From what I can see just about all of their fund raising is geared up to pink ribbon, breast cancer stuff. And this is then backed up by business jumping on the bandwagon. male cancers are just a sideshow.

consequently i do not give any donations to Cancer Research UK. Prostate cancer research is still in the dark ages.

just look at their homepage just now, pink pink breast cancer....
