Re: How do you stay fit? or do you even try? Bmiricle,
You've mentioned convenience foods the odd time or two.
I was thinking about this idea in bed the other night, imagine where we would be these days had the microwave oven never been invented.
Oddly enough, it was invented (by a man) purely by accident.
If the microwave oven had never been invented, the concept of most of the convenience foods we now see on the supermarket shelves, would not exist.
I was doing a lighting upgrade in one of our local supermarkets a couple of years ago and it was amazing to see the sheer difference in the buying choices of different age groups.
Pretty much the older generations would stop at the vege and fruit departments and a great majority of their trolley would be full of this.
On the other hand, you'd notice that people of my generation and the generation after me would tear past the fruit and vege section as though it wasn't even there!
And then load their trolleys up with instant this and instant that and while I'm not saying that's a bad thing, each to their own I guess.
I note a couple of you guys mentioned that you smoke, I realised the other day that I've been smoking now for 23 years, that rather scared me actually.
It's early in the morning here and the BBC World Service is on TV, on the "news ticker-tape", it recently came over there that the reason that men die at a younger age than women, is because of smoking, so some "study" says.
Like ALL men smoke?
That has to be one of the lamest cop-out excuses I have ever heard.
Let's try lack of male-orientated health services (and we all know why that is, don't we, eh?), greater work-place stress and longer working hours.
To a degree I also believe that stress at home can contribute to a shorter life too, especially if a guy's home life is compounding the already stressful life he has at work.

Re: How do you stay fit? or do you even try?
It's funny when you think of things from a different perspective sometimes. Like you said Mike, in supermarkets, even in your local grocers, you kind of just accept the goods they have without every thinking to far into it. Short of the deli, fruit and veggie, and meat sections, just about every food-type substance you find as you walk down the other aisles can be 'nuked' and served. This way of eating/cooking, as with many of the advances of technology that tend to make things easier and generally more convenient for us is also in many ways making us more complacent.
Currently in the US there is a Health craze. This is marketable because it ties in with our 'image' fad as well. Not that eating and living healthy isn't a good thing, but I see it as getting away from its original intent. Instead of "eat healthy because its good for you", it's "eat healthy because you're a horrible person if you don't what we consider healthy."
The general theme is running away from the original intent due to the fact that it's profitable. So goes human nature at this point I suppose. Personally I'm fed up with commercials, marketing, and society as a whole at this point so I'm pretty sure I'm doing a good job of just ignoring it. Only thing is, the majority of folks aren't like me. In general people buy in to whatever is marketed to them. Ease of preparation is an easy sell, makes money for someone somewhere, and people are generally lazy. Everyone's happy I guess.
I've been going on 14 years smoking. I've quit a few times, smoked a pack and a half a day at others, currently I'm going through a pack every 2-3 days. I'm slowly trying to ween myself off of cigarettes again. But yeah, apparently men are the only ones that smoke and that is why we die at a younger age. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the physical abuse our bodies endure over the course of our life, or the ones that die young in the streets, or the deaths due to war, and so on.
Not to re-mention what you've already said, but stress is a valid life shortener. I'm sure over the past decade I've lost a few years on the back end of mine. Military, divorce, poverty, Child support issues, work, etc....I've been a craphole of stress for some time now. As well as a bagillion other people.
I dunno Mike, times change with the wind, maybe we'll all get a breeze in our direction soon.~Politicians are just a group of lawyers over complicating life for everyone else.

599 additives in a cigarette.
The list of 599 additives approved by the US Government for use in the manufacture of cigarettes is something every smoker should see.
Submitted by the five major American cigarette companies to the Dept. of Health and Human Services in April of 1994, this list of ingredients had long been kept a secret.
Tobacco companies reporting this information were:
American Tobacco Company.
Brown and Williamson.
Liggett Group, Inc.
Philip Morris Inc.
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
While these ingredients are approved as additives for foods, they were not tested by burning them, and it is the burning of many of these substances which changes their properties, often for the worse.
Over 4,000 chemical compounds are created by burning a cigarette, many of which are toxic and/or carcinogenic.
Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide and amm- onia are all present in cigarette smoke.
Forty three known carcinogens are in mainstream smoke, side- stream smoke, or both.
It's chilling to think about not only how smokers poison themselves, but what others are exposed to by breathing in the secondhand smoke.
The next time you're missing your old buddy, the cigarette, take a good long look at this list and see them for what they are, a deliv- ery system for toxic chemicals and carcinogens.
Cigarettes offer people only a multitude of smoking related diseases and ultimately death.
Source.
Mandated chemicals in tobacco.
Taken verbatim from an Alan Watt radio broadcast, from cutting through the matrix.com
I know someone who worked for the marketing agenda for the tobbaco companies, and she noticed at the time in the 70`s all of the really dangerous chemicals that suddenly were ordered to be added to tobbaco by the government, were deadly chemicals and they could not figure out why the government was mandating by law, that they had to add these chemicals to these main stream tobbacos.
We do know that part of the plan is to kill us off, to reduce the population.

Re: How do you stay fit? or do you even try?
I find it hard to work out and lose weight. Ever since going back to New York, which is the dirtiest shithole on the face of the planet, and coming back to Florida from my seventh-month stay out there, I have become drained of all my energy. And for a young man my age (21) I was really healthy before going back to that nasty-ass, misandric shithole, that some people call the "Greatest City In The World". Drinking flouridated water, and eating processed food, has really done a shit load of damage to my body, and living in the projects is no joke. Those communities are polluted and practically dead. I can't even remember the last time I had a nice, cold cup of water, without that shit being tainted.

Re: How do you stay fit? or do you even try?
Yeah, the best advice I can give you, is to stay out of major American cities like New York. The South is environmentally more hospitable, if you ask me, or even leaving the country at that. This country is busy killing off its people bit by bit, by poisoning the food and water supply, and a shithole like New York is a good example and prime target. Welfare is very big out there also, so you can imagine all the parasites mooching off of government benefits paid by mens taxpayer dollars, so the powers-that-be see this as a good opportunity to kill off the "useless eaters" and render them sterile throughout the process.

Re: How do you stay fit? or do you even try?
I can still remember when I flew to Los Angeles (new babylon) with my mother. The air quality was horrible and smelled like pine cones. Boston was a little more tolerable minus the road rage and police sirens every three minutes. The feminism here in the south is not as obnoxious and your face as it is in the north. I remember reading that my state didn't get the color TV until 1985. Yes, things move slower in the south but it gives you time to grow physically and mentally. It's not all hustle and bustle. The three biggest shit holes in America are New York (new Gomorrah), Chicago (new Sodom) and Los Angeles (new Babylon).

HaHaHa!! True man. The way of life in the city is horrible. I do agree with the term Southern Hospitality in a sense. I had to get out of New York (new Gomorrah). Shit is horrible out there. If anything I am much more secure in the South than I am in the North, and I have freedom to move around on my own two legs.
