A millionaire husband branded a "cold fish" by a judge was yesterday ordered to pay his "drama queen" wife more than Â£3m as a divorce settlement.

In a stinging judgment High Court Family Division judge Mr Justice Burton described in detail the bitter marriage of a couple who were together for less than eight years.

The judge ruled that neither the 61-year-old husband - nor his 41-year-old wife - can be named for legal reasons but he outlined the bitterness of their union.

Much of his judgment could have been taken from the script of the Eighties film "The War of the Roses."

The movie starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as the pair played out a vicious divorce battle.

Yesterday's judgment contained four pages of "incidents" and outlined various fights, rows and assaults on each other during the couple's tempestuous time together.

These included the pair slapping each other repeatedly, kicking each other and throwing glasses and mugs at each other.

On one occasion the wife threw a steak - and the frying pan her husband was still cooking it in - into their garden.

She also threw her wedding ring into the plush North London square in which they lived and it was never recovered.

Police were called on numerous occasions - including when the couple fought in their homes - and the wife once became so angry that she pulled a radiator from their bathroom wall.

The "drama queen" also tore up the couple's wedding photographs before running downstairs where she poured two bottles of her husband's favourite port and sherry down the sink.

She also grabbed her husband's glasses as he drove their car and before lobbing them out of the window.

She even tossed a glass of wine over him as he ate when she claimed she "could not attract his attention."

She also tore the wing mirror from his Jaguar car before throwing it over a wall.

She also threw food , eggs and orange juice at her husband while he once kicked in the front door of one of their properties when refused entry.

Yesterday the judge ruled that the "cold fish" of a husband would have to pay a high price for his "domineering and dogmatic" ways.

Meanwhile, his wife - branded a 'drama queen' by one lawyer - walked away with half of the couple's matrimonial property.

This totalled Â£3,001,112 - equivalent to Â£400,000 for every year of their marriage.

During a seven day hearing in October the wife had asked for between Â£3.5m and Â£4 million as a divorce pay-off.

Her husband had argued he should only have to pay her a little more than Â£2 million.

The couple married in 1997 after meeting while both working at a firm of chartered surveyors in London but they split up on December 27, 2004, after the husband was finally arrested for assaulting wife his wife.

He later admitted causing her actual bodily harm and was sentenced to a 12 month Community Rehabilitation Order.

The couple had two children - a son now aged eight and a three-year-old daughter - and the court heard they finally divorced in September 2005.

The ruling outlined how the husband was already a wealthy man when the pair met but things began to go wrong soon into the marriage, as the judge commented: "It did seem to me wholly distressing that what could and should have been a comfortable and successful second marriage in his 50s for the Respondent, and a first marriage for the Applicant which would bring her both substantial material benefits and companionship and children, went so badly and so quickly wrong, due to the conflict of their personalities."

Describing the husband the judge went on: "The Respondent is, in my judgment, dogmatic, domineering, demanding, intolerant and a cold fish."

"He attempted to control his temper, though, once roused to anger, found it difficult to exercise restraint, and he seems to have regarded it as his role as the older man to criticise a younger wife who seemed to him to be making no effort to play the role that he had expected."

He then turned to his wife and launched a scathing critique of her personality as he told how she had been "aptly described" by a lawyer as a "drama queen," continuing: "The Applicant is hyper-emotional, uncompromising, quick-tempered and sharp-tongued, quick to lash out, particularly when criticised, whether with violence towards the Respondent - though it became soon apparent that that was counter-productive by virtue of his response - or, once she realised the way she really could rile him, by an attack on his possessions."

The judge finished his ruling hoping they could put "any continuing dispute behind them" and "dedicate themselves to the interests of the children."
