Roe v. Wade for Men

A new blog entry has been added:

Roe v. Wade for Men

Quote:
Saturday, August 05, 2006Roe v. Wade For Men We hear so much talk about "it's her body, her choice". What choice does the father have? None. And I don't want to hear about how "he had his fun, now it's time to step up." You might be surprised to know how many women lie about being on birth control, or fail to take it on a regular basis. And condoms break.

Re: Roe v. Wade for Men

I think one thing that gets lost in the whole Roe v. Wade debacle is that this is not just about abortion or a woman's right to it. There is much more involved than that.

In the days before Roe v. Wade, if a woman needed surgery - ANY surgery - she had to find a male relative to give permission for it. If she was married, she better hope her husband was gracious enough to give his permission. If she was not married, she had to get her father or brother to give permission. So, basically, she better hope her male relatives weren't dead or nonexistent.

In some cases, the woman did not want her male relatives to know about her surgery. For instance, my mother had to have a hysterectomy after nearly dying in childbirth. She was not aware of the Roe v. Wade implications at that time, so she believed she had to get my father's permission. He gave it, but never stopped telling her how she wasn't a woman anymore, etc. etc. after the fact.

As far as I'm concerned, any time I have a medical procedure of any sort done, I am thankful to Roe v. Wade. We all should be, not just women, but men with female relatives.

Re: Roe v. Wade for Men

I know that was not where the topic was supposed to be headed, but I get so frustrated that so many ppl - especially women - are clueless about the actual result of the verdict.

First time I've heard that one. Are you sure you're not talking about the 19th Century rather than the 20th?

I call bullshit. Back this rediculous assertion with proof. When I wanted to get snipped, I was REQUIRED to get my wife to APPROVE IT. This is NOW (1987)! this century. Not the feminist version of history. Or is it HERstory....

What the fuck does killing infants have to do with a woman getting surgery? Even if that were true You femmes could have passed a law making it legal to have operations with killing infants. Yeah we can have boob jobs and all it costs was several million babies yeah.

I heard that since Roe v. Wade there have been something like a billion abortions performed in the West. This is something to be thankful for?

Re: Roe v. Wade for Men

Yes, I'd like to see some reliable sources cited for this claim... I know a married man in England has to have permission for a vasectomy too, but I've not heard that any operation required a man's signature previously.

I've searched, but can't find anything about this here in the Netherlands.

Bullshit.

Just so we know what we are really talking about here when we discuss abortion, see this: http://www.abort73.com/HTML/I-A-4-photos.html

When I had to have a hysterectomy during a failed VBAC, the doctors asked my husband to give his consent. They never asked me, even though at that point I was still conscious and had not been put under general anesthesia yet.

Again, not sure what that has to do with the murder of unborn babies.
