    Liberal Democrats : What is the point? Please disband!

    In that fabled edition of BBC Question Time - Impartial or working for the Labour party ? (You Tube) where we saw Harriet 'Rear of the Year' Harman insist David 'Quiver hand' Dimbleby shuts Ian Duncan-Smith up about family separation and Javis Cocker reflect on his moonie at Micheal Jackson's Brit appearance the week the great star died and some unnamed Liberal Democrat member inform Peter Hichens, of all people (Robust Sunday Mail Journalist), that he should vote for them , the curt reply was "Whats the point?"
    I have always shared that view of the 'Whats the Point Party' who have not had a significant influence in Parliament for almost 100 years and my earliest recollections were of Jeremy Thorpe as leader, and even as a teenager I could not for see him representing Britain on the world stage anymore then the current incumbent.

    Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats takes questions in Watford on the 25th February 2010 for the latest of his public meetings.Find full details of this and future public meetings http://libdems.org.uk/home.aspx

    This is a shame as there is some lost talent that should fill the void created by the mass resignation of M.Ps at the forthcoming election and I would call on the Party to disband and allow their members to pin their allegiances to either main party they would have been happy being 'hung' to and perhaps we will see a more defined politic in this country missing for so long as all three parties vying for the same middle ground and being swayed by tabloid opinion rather the showing strong clear leadership. We need latter day Hestletines and Tebbits and more Dennis Skinners who between them tell you where they stand politically in their first sentence and often with more commonsense then Parliament could handle thus far.

    Vince Cable, Shadow Chancellor & Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats will answer any question on economic policy in an online session on the 25th February. Submit your questions from today online and vote for your favourite for Vince to answer.

    There are some rare talents in the party Menzies Campbell was the wise old sage and I believe Vince Cable who seems to command respect for his wisdom across the floor may prove to be the best Chancellor we never had a chance of getting as the Lib-Dem's right back to the David Owen, Shirley Williams Bill Rogers and Roy Jenkins era have been the only party relying on proportional representation to have any chance of success, funny even Brown has muted something about PR now he find the chips are down.

    Whilst I always regarded Lord Paddy Ashdown as a bit of a lose cannon two Lib-Dem's who do emerge as front runners for a Ministerial role in government are;
    John Hemming MP for Yardley Birmingham in the West Midlands and as an advocate for all things Family Law finds his constituency is renowned for having the worst social services in the UK ( My findings suggest it is in fact endemic throughout the land from Cornwall to Hull from Eastbourne to Glasgow) So who better to be in charge of CSF following the loss of Ed Balls later this year? Balls in my opinion has never been Minister enough even if the department was separated up into it's 3 consistence of Children, Schools and Families and needed a lot more then £800k being thrown at each council to recruit more social workers when what is needed is better ones!

    Lynne Featherstone MP for the equally criticised borough of Haringay where the loss of Baby Peter to abusive guardians occurred in the wake of the Victoria Climbe enquiry just a few years previously again giving this council the dubious accolade of being the worst in London, but as I say this is endemic across the land and across Boris Johnson's constituency! Here too I believe Ms.Featherstone would be a worthy contender as DWP minister replacing Yvette 'Mrs Balls' Cooper so at least there would be no more over the breakfast conversations of " Who's life shall we screw up today?" and maybe we will get the long overdue reform in both departments we so desperately need!

    Don't really agree with this. Labour are a total disaster and most Conservatives, whilst and improvement and less damaging to the country, they're barely fit for Parliament.

    The Lib Dems only have 50 or so MPs so if your highlighting 10% of them as quite talented then that's a pretty good ratio and quite a good reflection on the party. Admittedly some Lib Dems come across as a bit pathetic and sometimes quite offensive (eg Jenny Tonge is so sick she got sacked this week for accusing the Jews or organ harvesting in Haiti!) but I can't see how having the best Lib Dems join Labour or the Tories benefits anyone. I think our system of different parties all having some degree of success is a good thing - far better than the two party system you see in the states for example where both continually ignore MRA issues 24/7.

    BTW I don't agree with your nomination of Featherston - she's supposed ot be in charge of children's and equality issues. She's quite good at the former, but for her equality issues mean women's issues. She's not some evil man hater as with the New Labour feminists, but msot of the time she's pretty clueless really and doesn't quite seem to get it.

    It has been several hundred years since Britain had a civil war. Last time it was to get rid of the Monarchy. It didn't work. The Monarchy, that is. But neither did the Parliament that replaced it. So we went back to the Devil we knew and cobbled together a strange sort of hybrid.

    We have been struggling with democracy and 'Parties' and parliaments for the past century or two and they are in dire need of 'replacement'. The Monarch is silenced; the Parliament of the United Kingdoms has devolved to several mini-Parliaments all feeding off the dwindling English taxpayer and has handed over British Sovereignty to the Eurpoean Commission; the 'Parties' are in-house clubs of mongrel pig breeds all with noses in the public trough.

    As a born and bred Coventry kid, I look forward to the resurgence of a strong and united Mercia, and many a fine war against those dastardly swine in Rutland.
