Thanks to the main man for letting me register! In short; I'm female, 27, Canadian, feminist in support of the original feminism, and know nothing at all about where feminism stands currently. At first I believed it was likely all BS and feminism was still what I'd always known it to be, but there've been some pretty convincing arguments against it lately, interested in reading some more and this seems as good a place as any. Won't be posting anything until I get a feel for the place, I'm not into irritating people. So, I'll pretty much be just reading, but figured I'd do the little intro here anyhow so nobody wondered what the hell was up with the strange new name =o) am1432/Amanda

Yearning for a mythical 'original feminism' as if it was some flawless ideology that went a little awry is somewhat naive. Feminism in it's latest insidious and destructive manifestation isn't going to concede all the power, legalized misandry and money it's amassed in some drive to suddenly become more ethical. Think about it.

How can you not know where feminism currently stands? This is the problem I find with many (misguided) women who proclaim to be a feminist, yet know little about feminism beyond the pop version of it (oprah).

I'm not here with any ulterior motives or secret angles. I was curious, asked if I could register and now I'm here. I'm very transparent, just try and have a little blind faith. If Canada is some kind of feminist haven, I'm not at all aware of it. Activism is important to me, but I'm not involved with anything specifically feminist. I'm not soft or easily offended, so feel free to throw anything you like at me here. I guess I don't have any wisdom to give you except this is a good site with good men and women.

If you come across me, your head may spin (sometimes) .... but that is just me trying to understand my world as you probably are here to do too.

But I must say, "you don't have to be afraid" to be yourself.

BTW, you will get to know Outdoors. He is really nice but at the same time he is trying to change the world we live in for the better. It is hard fighting the system but feminists (at least in my country) seem to want men to fight real hard because they did. How I wish those who know suffering would not want to force suffering on others but the world is made up of people and people are kinda crazy.

Doris Lessing is an 'old school' feminist too - and I like to quote her in relation to the subject of misandry - She said at the Edinburgh Book Festival, in August, 2001:

I find myself increasingly shocked at the unthinking and automatic rubbishing of men which is now so part of our culture that it is hardly even noticed.

She went onto point out-

The most stupid, ill-educated and nasty woman can rubbish the nicest, kindest and most intelligent man and no one protests …

What she didn't get around to saying, of course, is that Feminism has lead this assault on men - and on all aspects of society. I suspect she was ashamed but lacked the courage to say so.

If, by original feminism, you refer to the art of being a lady, wife, mother, grandmother, and role model for all younger ladies, then I commend your conception of the woman's role.

Women use their strength of emotion to fulfill their job. Men use their strength of logic to fulfill their job. Crossing up these strengths, for whatever purpose, brings trouble, confusion and pain for people. I agree that women were more respected when they took being a lady seriously instead of just putting on the 'hat' of a lady when circumstances called for it.

Masculinism, or the men's movement, is hardly an effective "counter" to feminism. It does not have anywhere near the strength or entrenchment that feminism does.

Whether feminism should be destroyed or not is a matter of personal opinion.
