Glad to be here
Hi everyone,
I was starting to wonder where all the large forums opposing feminism were... and it seems like I've finally found at least one
I guess that it's still early days for people who are looking for an alternative view on gender issues.
I live in Sweden and I grew up with a strong feminist presence in society, something that I believe has shaped generations of young men in Scandinavia. During the past few years, as I've connected with men around the world and read several books that are critical of feminism, I've come to realize that feminism is a strong force more or less throughout the Western World.
My own take on feminism is that it got things wrong from the start. Instead of realizing that traditional society was a gender role society where both genders had very constricted and potentially traumatic roles to play, feminism started claiming that only women got the bad deal, and that the only reforms necessary were those that helped women.
Once this crucial mistake had been made, and feminism had become the dominant (the only...) voice in the gender discourse, it was only a matter of time before before the gender discussion would spiral out of control and turn to misandy and woman-as-perpetual-victim.
Feminism has certainly done some good work, but I believe that all the constructive reforms for women that have been implemented with the help of feminism, could have been implemented just as well or better by a gender liberation movement that cares about both sexes.
My own stance nowadays is that feminism needs to be transcended and replaced by a gender liberation or gender equality movement that looks at both the male and female gender role, and aims to make both of them less constricted.
After being interested in gender issues for years, I'm now writing and debating these issues in a serious way, and there's nothing I'm more passionate about.
Once again, I'm glad I found this place, and kudos to the people who have created this safe haven to exchange ideas.

Warmly,
Pelle

Yo, Pelle.
Welcome.
We don't get many chaps from Scandinavia. All under the thumb? At least you are breaking out.
I hope you join in here.
Cum dilectione hominum et odio vitiorum
Love the Sinner but not the Sin.
(St. Augustine)
“ For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “
(and within ourselves)
(Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
A Feminist is a human being who has lost her way and turned vicious.
If you meet one on the road as you Go your Own Way,
offer kindness but keep your sword drawn.

Feckless and RebelliousVanilla: Thanks for the welcome!
Percy: Yes, many Scandinavian men are still under the thumb, so to speak. But there are real signs of things starting to change, slowly but surely. I'm part of a private mailing list of 10-15 men and women who are actively working to change the feminist dominance in Sweden, and to promote broader views on gender issues. And we are finally seeing articles in newspapers and magazines that are questioning feminist public policy as well as the all-pervasive view that gender is nothing but a social construct.

Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: Glad to be here
Hi Pelle! It´s nice to have another scandinavian here. Välkommen!
Personally I'm eager to hear how things are in Sweden by men's point of view. Equality issues in Sweden are constant topic in the local media, but for long time we have looked forward a chance to hear the thoughts of common swedish men. The image given by the media usually represents views of only a small academic proportion, which is hardly critical about feminism.
I have impression of the swedish feminism and the women studies, that it is slight more radical than here in Finland. Or am I wrong? Names like Gudrun Schyman, Eva Lundgren, Tiina Rosenberg, Ireen von Wachenfeldt, Slagen Dam, ROKS, Feminist Intiative are often in headlines, and opinions vary from side to side. It would be very intresting to hear how common swedish feel about those.
Again Welcome!

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

"""..My own take on feminism is that it got things wrong from the start.."""
and how !!!!
the feminits basically see a man as an ambulatory slave and really want to insert a ring through his nose
look at the feminit star chamber the Family Court which is an institution set up by the feminits and manginas to legally rip off a a fathers assets kids and impose peonage instalments on him at the same time ignoring its own orders for access to his own kids obtained by him at great cost
only foolish men sign the marriage peonage contracts nowadays with feminit wimyn
I have heard in the USA the divorce rate is average 50% and in southern California 70%
ps don't try and make sense of the dogma of feminitism you will just get confused with the casuistry they chatter about it is basically a shell trick

Re: Glad to be here
Hello Pelle.
Casting my mind back, there's quite a few Scandinavian men who have become members here on the forum.
The wicked flee when none pursueth. Proverbs 28:1
'Rise like Lions after slumber In unvanquishable number - Shake your chains to earth like dew Which in sleep had fallen on you - Ye are many - they are few.'
Percy Bysshe Shelley
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. "
Thomas Jefferson
The internet has been a lifeboat for men's opposition to the floodings of feminism.

Re: Glad to be here
Morty and Billy,
Yes, the feminist elite has been very influential in Sweden, to the extent that even the Swedish government now states in its official documents that "women have been subordinated by men", "sex differences are a social construct", etc. The Swedish government turns to the "experts" of gender studies when they want to device a public policy on equality between the sexes. Do I have to tell you that that strategy is disastrous?
For a very long time feminists have been allowed to say whatever they want about men (in newspapers, on TV shows), and generalize about how horrible men are, and how all problems in the world are created by men.
But there are finally small signs that the tide is starting to turn. A few articles that are critical of feminism are starting to pop up, and recently a female member of parliament spoke up about the misandry in Sweden.
I don't know what the exact state of affairs is in Finland and Canada, but from what I've heard we have it worse than Finland and similar to Canada.
