I spent like an hour putting together a whopping gif animation last night. Including snapshots of the screen for step-by-step instruction, transition from stage a2b and highlighting the pertinent buttons & procedures.

All of it wasted - entirely. Due to it's considerable size of 600x400xtrillions of colours, it crashed when i tried to convert it to a small file size. Karl was not the happiest chappy on the forum, by a long shot.

So anyway, here is my rather 'lo-tech' version instead.

so begin by going to the uploader url, which is:

then, read the TERMS - these MAY change over time according to the needs at that time.
Click BROWSE, as below: (click the image to see animation)


Once you press browse, a file selector box appears on your screen. Navigate your way to where-ever your desired image resides, most commonly 'my pictures' within 'my documents'. Locate the image by filename, and then click OPEN, as below: (click the image to see animation)


By this stage, the empty box next to "browse" should contain the filepath to your desired image for uploading. If all is well, click UPLOAD, as below: (click the image to see animation)


The image will take varying lengths of time, depending on it's filesize and your connection to the web - this is unavoidable regardless of which image host you choose.

The next screen offers you the choice of BB Code (used on boards such as this), HTML and others. We'll concentrate on BB Code for now.
Place your mouse over the BB Code textbox and select all of the contents. Usually, three rapid clicks of the mouse performs this or pressing CTRL+A. Once you can see all the text within the box is selected, right click your mouse and select 'COPY' from the pulldown menu. Also, the keyboard shortcut is CTRL+C. (click the image to see animation)



So far, you've chosen a picture you want to use, you've selected it using the uploader page, you've uploaded it to the files and you've copied the location text needed to insert that image into a post on this (or another) board. All you need to do now, is create a new post in the forum and when you're ready to insert your picture, right click and select PASTE (CTRL+V). Job done!



The job is done! You now have an image uploaded and the necessary BB code to insert into any post. Congrats!

Just an update, i've been busily editing the php & html for the image uploader, and in doing so, added a url to each page. Hence if you send a person to an image hosted at the MAF image uploader, it will tell them the URL just above the image itself.
They can then use this to copy & paste for future reference.
And yes, i realise most people would happily just drag it from the address bar, but some people do not realise they can use that for clipboard purposes. It also now monitors IP addresses - So NO being naughty with it!

Another Plus for this site.

The button at the top for the image uploader only occurs in the default board style (ie. I can see it as a guest, but not logged in). Maybe the uploader could be linked on the sidebar where you have some other links. I copied the link on one of the uploaded pictures and backspaceed to the core url last time.

Accckkk.. I just achieved 100 posts and with it apparently a sex-change to "he-man." :badgrin:

I only added a new link to the subsilver stylesheet (template/skin) as it's the most commonly used one. It accounts for some 60% of views. Only laziness spares me from adding it to others... but i shall, after i procrastinate some more!
Also, I do link to the uploader page from my signature on each post, just underneath the Union Jack logo.

That's discrimination, you know. I'd sue me if i were you!
