For users on dial up accounts this post is important.
As you will likely already know, dial-up internet access is far more restrictive and limited than say, cable or aDSL.
So, some of the members here who use dial up may find the pages load a little too slow for their liking; largely this is due to graphics that are loaded with each & every page of the forum. I've installed a skin that has virtually no graphics and reliant upon text. Simply, the phpBBlite skin uses almost only text and as such pages will load considerably faster than almost any other skin available.
Hence, this post serves not only the purpose of explaining how to change the skin (to any that you like), it also serves well as a recommendation for dial-up users who may find page-loads a little sluggish.
To begin with, you must be a member - nonmembers are confined to a default skin, this is unavoidable and not my doing, it is how the board was programmed by the hands of another. Once you've registered, you then have a profile. To access your profile, look at the top of any page and you will see it, as highlighted:
Once inside your profile page, scroll down to the 'preferences' section and look for
Board Style. To the right of Board Style is a pulldown menu. Click it and select "
phpBBlite".
Now you're set - just click the good old 'Submit' button, and you're set!
