Karl, this profanity censorship is kinda over the top & annoying, IMO. We're all adults here, can you turn it off? If not, can you explain just what exactly do you want to prevent from happening by having it activated? End of the world? :lol:

Sorry if it annoys. the actual censoring is extremely limited. I manually edited your post.

The reason being, is some words are simply stronger than others:

Upon posting a reply to a query/thread i initiated elsewhere, i received a good handful of requests from others to tone it down. I realise some boards do allow for excessive profanities while others allow for limited use of swearing. Personally, i'm not against swearing per-se, but i see little point in using swear words purely for insults purposes.

Example being, on my own site i have sworn using the F-word as well as b*st*rd.
One of the differences being, AH doesn't link directly to my sites' articles, but does to forum articles - and has expressed a deep interest in sheilding his viewers from unnecessary use of profanities.

Therefore, i'm respecting AH's wishes (and some others') - to minimize vulgarities - and maintain at least some level of professionalism.

As a well respected of this forum, Slaytan, I genuinely hope the censoring does not put you off to the point of departing our company. You would be sorely, and regretfully missed.

OTOH, I hope you can understand AH's point of view, regarding his viewers linking & hence viewing material here.

That aside, although this is a generally adult forum, I am aware of at least two 15yr olds who frequent here, and it is with their interests too that I followed the advice to curb the use of language.

ps - for what it's worth, I think if you're quoting a text from elsewhere (unless extraordinarily excessive) which has words such as "bast*rd" in some context aside from insulting, then yeah - that's fine & should remain.
It's more the pure insult that puts me off. Of course, i don't have all the room in the world to talk as I have been known to make snide comments & resort to name-calling on occasion myself. :roll:

Karl, I didn't mean to say that I'll be leaving if censorship won't be disabled, I really had no intention to make it seem like it is an ultimatum of that kind or something. I just think it is over the top, but as you explained, you have your own reasons for it, and I respect that - I don't imagine in my wildest dreams, that the whole forum should change just for me, no way - if others (besides you, of course) find it (in)appropriate, then so be it, I'm gonna have to deal with that, no problem.

I really appreciate the open-mindedness you have regarding this matter.

I made AH mod too for those reasons, this allows him to be more independant on here than having to msg me every time he sees something he'd like to use, but doesn't want to inflict vulgarities upon his viewers.

I personally believe filtering should be used for it creates a more professional appearance and less ammunition for the opposition.
Even though I have been known to sling a few naughty words myself.
It is overall a very good site.

I agree that filtering helps us keep our professionallism. Though wouldn't it make logical sense to allow more profanity when doing.. pure rants.. or anything completely self expressive? I guess I'm saying that: Isn't it the discression of the actual writer whether or not they want to keep professionalism in their writings? And even beyond that..

Right, and there is a difference. By self-censoring, you're showing a level of self-restraint, that not all of us have acquired. By en large, I believe I have this in the majority of my writings, as have the most of us as members of this forum. This 'self-restraint' is a show of comittment to a level-headedness and respect for other members, after all, I know of some younger folks who visit this forum and they need not be faced with such profanities by otherwise level-headed adults, i.e. us.

I only really have three forms of 'moderation' on this board. I move spam out of the way, this saves clutter and hopefully deters other spammers from using this site as a free-for-all aggregation of their site/s. Secondly, I manually edit out some swearing, or words that are incredibly alike to swear words. As an example, I replaced a fukc with :-# not because I wish to literally censor the members but simply I wish to maintain a level of decency. Having said that, I won't pretend I've been entirely innocent in every post I've made... I too have had 'slips'. The third and final method is automated by the board itself, as preprogrammed by myself. Anyone with even basic syntax knowledge can determine the choice phrases and 'likely' misspellings thereof.

Anyway, I would prefer to maintain a relatively clean board, in that regard. I think it fair to me as the admin of it, and to those who come by from afar expecting to read views & articles that pertain to something on their mind, not to be confronted by an "eff this and eff that" with a monsterously big middle finger in every few posts.
