It's a rip-off, but if you shop around you can get good deals. I got a pack of 6 Schick disposables for less than $4 today.

Nah, I ditched the blades for a Braun Pulsonic Series 7 electric shaver 3 years ago. Shaves extremely close, with no irritation.

I tried a similar electric shaver (philips). It was good - but after 6 months the blades go blunt and to buy new ones work out almost as expensive as a new shaver! (at leasr here in Europe)

I bought a Gillette Mach 3, a great razor, however, the refills are very expensive, so I bought the supermarket`s own equivelant razor, the refills are about a third of the price.

Aaaah!! Here in the Philippines I always thought it was because they're imported. Apparently not.

I tend to shop around. How come a refill pack of 3 Schick blades costs 156 pesos when a new razor with 2 extra free blades costs 64 pesos??

As a result of this discerning policy I have a wide assortment of useless handles with no blades. Naturally the blades of one model don't fit the handles of another, even when they're made by the same manufacturer. How come?

Give the Braun a shot. I've used mine for 18 months before replacing the cartridge head, and I have a pretty thick beard.

I don't use razors.
I use clippers.

I bought a pack of 5 disposable razors for 20p at Wilco supermarket recently, after I couldn't find the lead for my electric razor. Admittedly I'm not a particularly hairy fellow, but they did the job sufficiently in the interim.

Branding and the attributive cost is all part of the big corporations efforts with parting you with your hard-earned money!

Given the hard-hitting effects of the current worldwide economy, maybe we should start up a scrimper thread?

i'd recommend using a safety razor, called double edged razors in America, the blades are cheap and last for ever and give a really close shave. When you start using one you do cut yourself but once you get used to a safety razor you wont look back

The only thing that works for me is a store-brand, single-edge razor. Everything else just rolls over my stubble, especially as I tend to shave once a week or so (if I remember or care). The single-edge ones cut smoothly and quickly, I rarely get cuts or rashes, and they're cheaper than anything else.

Witch hazel after I'm done is the secret ingredient.
