He was the oldest living former HW champ for years, best remembered as the first man to KO joe "the brown bomber" louis, who KO'd him in seconds in the rematch. here is a pic of him and joe  he refused to join the nazi party and evn kept his jewish manager, which aroused hitler Ire, landing him on the front lines in WWII   | ||||

The pic didn't show for me! My dad used to talk about Max all the time...he was really into boxing, and by extension, I was too. Where I grew up, almost every guy was into boxing, either watching it or doing amateur boxing. Some of the Rocky movies were filmed in my old neighborhood in South Philly, in fact. The Blue Horizon is in a REALLY bad neighborhood, frankly I'd be afraid to go there even in broad daylight! Years ago, when I was a kid and before, the fighters were Irish, Italian and Jewish. Now its mostly black and Hispanic, and so the boxing venues are in their neck of the woods now. Usually really bad areas. here in the DFW area the best place to go see live local fights is the silver city strip club(which is really upscale) and the cowtown arena(right by billy bobs) the mexican sports bars in east dallas and north fort worth and arlington show ALL the matches(the ese's love thier boxing and soccer) | ||||
