i thought it might be interesting to post this? i think he's a man who displays so many different faces that every time you see him you don't recognise who it is? I wonder how he manages it.. when he speaks spanish, he sounds just like a native argentinian. I just thought he is an interesting role model for young men today, he shows just how wide, and exciting it could be to be a man in todays world.

Well, he may be an attractive man, and a good actor, I'm not sure that makes him a "great man with historical accomplishments", maybe future historians might think so

Never heard of him. I'm not bothered if I never hear him or see his picture(s) again either. Whatever his accomplishments, he does absolutely zilch for me. Now the Polish girl on the No 12 checkout till down at my local Tesco store is a different matter altogether.......she puts her English colleagues on the adjoining checkout tills right in the shade not only for looks but in the way she acts and conducts herself and without that strange thing so many British girls have...."attitude".

Not sure if Viggo Mortensen made any noteworthy historical accomplishments, although he is a great actor.

Did you watch the highly acclaimed Lord of the Rings Trilogy? If so Viggo Mortensen plays Aragorn. If not you should check it out.

Played a fabulous part, with dignity, honour and very masculine..

I really enjoy those movies, have the three right on my entertainment unit...

He was impressive as an actor in performing his part, a must see movie/s.

To be honest I met Viggo on the set of Lord of The Rings when we were running power to the shooting area.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no star spotter, our local power company that I was working for at the time were contracted to provide an 11,000V transformer.
This guy came up to me and introduced himself, it was him, I had to take my live-glove off to shake his hand.
Not a bad sort either.

i don't think viggo is amazingly handsome or anything, what im trying to say is that what is attractive about him, is that he is able to portray so many different aspects to his personality, he can play the handsome, and he can play the ugly.

thats why i posted this, shows that despite what you feel is the situation for men, as long as you learn what you are doing, you can acomplish what you want.

Ah, yes. Mr. Mortensen will forever be the personification of Aragorn to me.

About once a year I do a LOTR marathon and watch all three movies back-to-back. Come to think of it...it's about that time.

If you are saying that training and personal discipline are good things, then I have no argument. Your between-the-lines comment seems to be "stop whining and get busy improving yourselves."

Any accomplishment depends on the skills and attitude of the protagonist, and the conditions he faces. King Canute tried to order the sea not to rise, to prove a point: some challenges ARE impossible. Only a fool throws his resources into a hopeless cause.

Much of the debate in these forums is about just how bad the situation is with regard to men's issues, and what challenges lay ahead. Some are optimistic, some are desparate. No-one at this level has the full picture, we have to guess about certain things (like who's really in charge).

The main behavioural options seem to be:
- engage in political activism
- engage in consciousness raising
- muddle through with the current mix of new and old social standards
- go your own way and leave society to sort itself
