So where does the 80cents to a dollar come in?

One thing never addressed in the "For every dollar a man makes, a woman gets 80 cents/50 cents/75 cents/a small baggie of dirt/whatever you can get away with saying because reporters don't bother to factcheck anyhow" arguments is they never seem to account for money women get that isn't through work. If a man makes $60,000 by working full time, and a woman makes $40,000 by working part time, and they both pull the money together, then share it evenly, they both have the same access to the same funds. Likewise, if a woman earns $50,000 through her job, and $20,000 through child support/alimony, she is not doing worse than a man earning $60,000, since she comes out $10,000 ahead, even if that's not covered.

I put the 80cents to a dollar in as a sarcastic note because articles from the same type of people are constantly bashing men for "making more" than women.

Great point Mateusz. That doesn't even include the reduced amount of cash many women have to pay as they get suckers to pay for everything and ladies nights...

I respect a woman who doesn't rely on a man via some "entitled" way.

Not to mention the fact that those who whine about the wage gap only look at actual wages, not other types of compensation. Such as extra health benefits, maternity leave, or other similar things. I'd be hard-pressed to find an employer who deliberately pays a woman only 80% of what a man makes for the exact same job (where both people have exactly the same education, same number of years and type(s) of experience and are working exactly the same number of hours).

Yep, it usually does.. When men are ahead for whatever reason, it's all bad, it's all "womyn am victims of oppwessssionz of teh evul menz" - the moment women are ahead, it's "proof" of women's 'inherent superiority' and men just have to 'step up'.

Really though, affirmative action obviously plays a part in this.

I'd be hard-pressed to find an employer who deliberately pays a woman only 80% of what a man makes for the exact same job.

Under Australia's equal pay laws, more men than women are suing employers. It isn't women who are getting underpaid for doing just the same job.
(I don't know the statistics in other countries, so don't make any assumptions either way.)

Out here in Cali I don't know a single employer who would be dumb enough to pay less to a woman. There are laws, inspections, audits, and a gazillion other ways the government and people would screw them over if that happened.

In fact this article proves the US. BLS's stats, that in many jobs the workforce has a near even split gender. Women as a collective often make more per the amount of work they do than men. Men as a total collective only make more because of unsavory jobs, longer hours, they more likely to take a financial risk to improve their career, and that "1" percent..

Aside from the wage gap myth being fully debunked, where the monetary power truly lies is in the spending, not the earning! It is easier to spend the wages of slaves than to become one yourself.

With the average couple men work longer hours than the female, yet women account for 75-80% of consumer spending. Quite a lucrative oppression???

Shouldn't men be burning their jockstraps to demonstrate against this massive spending gap?
