I really did not know what forum to put this in,i figured it's a good news kinda thing as false allegation awareness is becoming more and more common.

A taxi company official in St. John's says some of his colleagues are thinking twice about who they pick up downtown because they fear they'll be falsely accused of doing something wrong.

"It's unfortunate but today, young single females or even two females in the car... bad news. Especially if they're intoxicated," said Doug McCarthy, general manager and a driver with Co-Op Taxi in St. John’s .

McCarthy said some young women are drunk and pass out on the way home. He said that when the driver wakes them up, they can't remember where they are going. In some cases, he said they threaten to make false accusations against the driver to avoid paying their fare.

“You touched me or you did this or that or you made a proposition,” said McCarthy, describing what drivers have told him.

McCarthy said fear that they'll be the victim of a false accusation, such as assault of inappropriate touching, has left some drivers struggling with the decision to pick up a young girl and bring her home if she is alone.

"Rule of thumb used to be pick up young girls first, take them home, pick up couples seconds and last, pick up the guys and take them home. Now, it's reversed," he said.

This isn't any shock - the false accusers have ruined it for themselves and other women. It's a shame that people are now weary of single women - but what can they expect when they've abused the pampered status they were afforded previously?

And they can't deny being pampered...

Does no one remember the cabbie in calgary a few years ago?-4 girl's accused him of molesting them just so they could get out of paying the fare.

The poor cabby was almost beat up by party goer's and arrested.

He DID have camera's in his cab that got him off the allegation's,the same camera that caught the girl's lieing,although it did not get them charged for anything.

The girl's have nothing to lose,they won't get charged as we have seen in this Calgary case.

The cabby has his future and well being at stake,nevermind the financial devastation that goes to defending himself..

Last I talked to the cabby in this past case is that the girl's are being personally sued but their high priced lawyer's are delaying everything and trying to financially decimate this cabby so he cannot afford to follow through on his suit.

I believe his fellow cabbies are donating to a lawyer fund for him.

Perhaps society needs to be totally segregated in order for all of this discrimination and all of these false accusations to be stopped. We can start by having female cabbies pick up women and male cabbies pick up men.

Imagine, the "rule of thumb" dictated that me men be picked up last!!! Talk about misandry! Now it's being reversed. What goes around comes around.

As a young 24 year old female, all I can say is WOW! I now feel, that the next time I decide to have a night out on the town with my friends and my fiance, I never want to step foot into another taxi company again! All females are not "drunken idiots" just like all men are not "jerks!" Cab drivers should have the choice to pick up whoever that want also. However, to me statement, I have witness a cab driver say that " he would rather only girls with nice legs get in my cab" But yes! There are a few occasional drunken idiots dt that like to screw it up for other people. But to have young females judged like this is a bit absurd!

So they're going to refuse someone (a girl) who seems to be to drunk. okay. this makes me so mad!!! All the add's say "arive alive" and "dont drink and drive" So who do we blame when that drunk girl has to find another way home? maybe some random guy who offered to "take her home" and ends up raping her? maybe she took her car down to a club that night and had ever intention of leaving it there overnight and picking it up in the moring, but now decided to drive her car while drunk because the cab driver refused to take her home, if they want to refuse someone who has been drinking, then they need to stay away from george street or any other club in the city. i never drink, and if i do i have maybe 1 or 2 and still decide to take a cab home, but after this i refuse to give these cab companys any more of my money.

I find these kind of mindsets truly irritating and shortsighted. Morons will always find ways to still blame everybody except for females. These cab drivers are 110% in the right to be weary of female passengers. Not every female is a false accuser, but every female is legally able to accuse falsely with impunity. It is the latter that truly counts and therefore this approach is more than fair and reasonable.

People claim safety cameras would solve the problem, but it does not. It has been seen that camera evidence did prevent false convictions, but it does not prevent the devastation that is being done to one's reputation and financial situation (you still might hvae to defend yourself which is not cheap). People are just all too trigger-happy to jump on these false accusations, take them as gospel truth and then continue insisting on his guilt through 'when there's smoke, there's fire' attitudes. Some accused actually get beaten up seriously over these false accusations.

And then women like this have the gal to be angry at cab drivers for being rightfully scared of this legal threat women have come to represent? Women should start pointing their fellow women whom actually sicken women's reputation by making false accusations for their own ends and off course the system that allows them to do so with impunity instead of blaming cab drivers for being 'sexist' or making the 'rape problem' even worse.

It is highly ironic when people who make these appaling statements even have the audacity to call the comments of others 'disgusting'.

It is also ironic that women find it disagreeable that the order is reversed now (picking men up first and single women last), but where were these complaints from women when it was still 'women first'? Bloody hypocrites...

That would be excellent! What a way to show that few women want to be cabbies. And what a way for women to wait and queue up waiting for another woman cabbie, while men (with partners, of course) can get rides easily with all the male cabbies.

"Women first" wasn't misandry. Maybe it was chivalry (and I know that many men here hate that idea just as much) or maybe just good social sense in a past age when men were far less likely to be late-night victims than women. Now that those women, generally, are not the victims but the perpetrators, it makes good social sense to take the men home first.

Perhaps that is the core of feminism although I believe that feminists will complain no matter what. Feminists will complain even if women are treated above men.

However, I don't see feminists making false allegations against taxi drivers. I see women making false allegations against taxi drivers. Shielding bad women behind feminism is like shielding bad white people behind KKK or bad black people behind gangs. One does not have to be the former to be the latter.

Where I live the tow truck operators have dash cams and cameras in the truck cabs, for obvious reasons kinda like the cabbie article above.

On Tuesday, Co-Op Taxi general manager Doug McCarthy told CBC News that some drivers are not picking up young women outside downtown bars because they fear they will be falsely accused of inappropriate touching or assault.

The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women, the St. John’s Status of Women Council, Coalition Against Violence-Avalon East and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre say that’s unacceptable.

“Under the Human Rights Act persons cannot be denied access to goods and services based on gender. The comments made by Doug McCarthy are suggesting that some drivers are doing just that,” said a news release signed by leaders of all four groups Wednesday.

There are some excellent comments in response to this bigotry from feminist groups by the public.

The vast majority of people see the sense and are telling the feminists to STFU and put their money where their mouth is (i.e. pointing out that the feminists aren't the ones putting their reputation at stake when they pick up some drunken sloth who won't pay her cab-fee).
