Minnesota family planning clinics close - UPI.com
MINNEAPOLIS, June 21 (UPI) -- Federal budget cuts made during a highly politicized battle over abortion will mean closing six Planned Parenthood clinics in Minnesota, the organization said.
Citing an 11 percent reduction in its budget because of cuts to the federal Title X program, Planned Parenthood announced the closures Monday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Clients of the closed clinics in Thief River Falls, Brainerd, Red Wing, Owatonna, Albert Lea and Fairmont will be encouraged to use any of the 18 remaining Planned Parenthood facilities in the state, the organization said.
The loss of family planning services in the affected communities could increase state healthcare costs and drive up the number of abortions, said Sarah Stoesz, executive director of Planned Parenthood's chapter for Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Re: Minnesota family planning clinics closed
Drive UP the number of abortions? Yeah right, it is my understanding that Planned Parenthood encourages abortions more often than not.
You know what I wonder, why haven't women donated money to keep these places open? I guess those places are only worthwhile if men (mostly) are paying for them via taxes."If Blizzard expects you to be always online to play their game. This isn't good news, we have planned parenthood for a reason. It provides birth control and counseling-that is why it might drive up abortion, because more people might get pregnant.
also only a tiny percentage of what planned parenthood does is abortionsall men by nature desire to know-aristotle

Okay.....I understand that Planned Parenthood has a purpose, but I think that if it's that important to the community, then it should be shifted over to a non-government subsidized private industry.
The various services that are provided that do not include abortions are often provided by the local Women's Health clinics found all over the place.
While I do feel some sympathy for those who may not have access to these services in such an easy manner, I can honestly say that we have seen this coming for some time now. The market forces will not support this kind of spending. No one here can say they haven't had at least two years to prepare for these types of cuts, and there will have to be more to come. With any luck, they will learn to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps instead of letting "Daddy Gov." foot the bill. Private donations, and fund-raising could restore a couple of these clinics.
If the people in the community disagree with the premise of Planned Parenthood and do not wish to contribute, then "oh, well". That is their business and no amount of demonizing them will do any good....and in some cases will probably show feminist complicity in the liberal spending agenda.

Re: Minnesota family planning clinics closed
It's good to see someone include FACTS into this discussion. With Planned Parenthood's services including much more than abortion it seems disingenuous to claim that they "encourage" abortions. It's like saying Burger King "encourages" obesity because they provide those obnoxious Stackers.
Many of these clinics provide care for women during pregnancy at a reduced cost and can be found in low-income and rural communities where money is tight, abstinence only is considered "sex education", and young men and women are no longer educated about just how life-changing pregnancy is. I work in non-profit and believe it or not, our costs are barely covered by the services we provide. We DO rely on donations, but in a country tightened at the belt due to financial hardship, even the affluent area we live in is effected by the economic crisis. I can only IMAGINE how subsidized services have been effected in areas with less disposable income.
Personally, I am VERY glad to live in the area I do as our communities do strive to provide the kind of funding and services lower income men and women need. I consider it eusebia to do so.

Ahhem.
I have never seen any family planning clinic that catered to the familial planning needs of men other than passing out condoms (a barrier device that has a signifigant rate of failure) and telling men that if their female partners decide to go through with a pregnancy that they had better "man up" and pay even if they were not willing and/or able to become parents themselves.
Is there such a clinic somewhere? If you are aware of one then let me know I would like to donate.Do not ever suppose that a small group of people can never change the world. INDEED it is the only thing that ever has.

Re: Minnesota family planning clinics closed
I'll provide you with this mystical clinic when you provide me with data showing that most clinics tell men to "man up."
Personally, I think if you were pressed enough to stick it in without wrapping it up then BOTH parties need to be aware of the consequences. Considering I didn't want a living parasite sucking my vital essence from my body for 9 months, condoms have worked just fine during the last 6 years I've used them, both with and without birth control. So this high failure rate has got to be from people using old condoms, condoms with holes, condoms that don't fit (don't buy Magnums if you're unit doesn't fit it), or just plain lying about their use of protection. I haven't had a single pregnancy and if things get too tempting, bust on her face. At least you get a show.
And are men not allowed in Planned Parenthood or something? Is there some kind of penis detector at the door that goes off wildly if you walk in? Are they supposed to send a limo to pick you up and give you champagne and caviar for doing something raccoons do?
"Congrats! You haven't mastered the pull out method, here have some Dom on us!"
I'm not letting women off the hook for anything, but I'm trying to understand whether you're making a valid point or just asking me for some cheese...
This is one of the reasons why REAL sex education is so important for both men and women.

If you would like we can move this conversation to the comments on one or both of two articles I wrote about male reproductive rights and or the real reason that we have no male pill. They both outline clearly the discrepancies between the genders in both regards. I encourage you to read both articles.Last edited by rohara; 1st-August-2011 at 07:35 PM.

I was taught that 'pulling out" was no guarantee of not getting pregnant as goes for the condom's--there is no 100% guarantee to any birth control working effectively 100% of the time. This is one of the reasons why REAL sex education is so important for both men and women.

I should think men could go anywhere they choose to, for that matter, I would like to think I can go anywhere I choose to.And are men not allowed in Planned Parenthood or something? Is there some kind of penis detector at the door that goes off wildly if you walk in? Are they supposed to send a limo to pick you up and give you champagne and caviar for doing something raccoons do?
Comfort is however a factor are they man-friendly, female friendly, couple friendly, children friendly? I talked with my Dad about this, he is after all simply older than I am, he does have a deeper experiential data base. Dad reports that in the seventies (1970's) Planned Parenthood was male and female friendly and provided unbiased education as well as some low cost birth control. Planned Parenthood jumped into the misandry caucus and the abortion caucus and became decidely misandric: birth control became all about women's choice.
With a world outstripping it's capacity to feed itself, the civilised nations always supporting unwise population expansion, the question of should I have a child ~ can I support it, can I nuture it is a wise question.
I, a female, do not like to go to or present seminars at the YWCA, even some Breast Cancer Charities, on the surface they seem acceptable enough, but their behind the doors venomous misandric attitudes about children and men are sickening to me.
If we are going to have entitled sex, and we have institutions that are publicly supported (financially), and if those institutions are decidely misandric we are simply funding a matriarchy, this is not doing individuals or society a favor.

Statute Blocking Planned Parenthood Funding Ruled UnConstitutional
August 4, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk
A Federal judge ruled that the Kansas statute that prevented groups like Planned Parenthood from receiving Federal funding was unConstitutional. The judge granted a request by Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri for a temporary injunction to block the enforcement of the law, according to The Associated Press.
The law was designed to allocate Federal money to State health departments and hospitals first, leaving no money for programs like Planned Parenthood. The judge agreed with Planned Parenthood’s argument that the law was in violation of the 1st and 14th Amendments, which guarantee rights of association.
“The purpose of the statute was to single out, punish and exclude Planned Parenthood,” said U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten, reports the news source.
Several forms of anti-abortion legislation have been approved by Congress over the past several months, only to be blocked by judges. According to the article, one of the pieces of legislation would have put more stringent regulations in place for abortion clinics.
