Re: Men to pay same for car insurance after European ruling
In keeping with my last post on this topic, I have been thinking about this more.
This is great news as I am encouraged to think that insurance companies have had enough clout to sway feminist lobbying by bringing to attention that men are not inherently more dangerous. I believe that the fact that women are driving more, driving SUV's which cause more deaths due the nature of the solidity of said vehicle impacting a small car will automatically cause more deaths for the smaller car. These factors have raised the question with insurance companies that they were being had by feminist ideology and were not getting the premiums they were getting from men, yet more accident claims involving women were coming in.
Again, this is due to changes in vehicle ownership and and type of vehicles being bought by both genders, not due to some notion that men are archaic and drive like the devil therefore should pay more. We are not living in the sixties anymore. Most cars on the road are four bangers that usually don't have more than 150hp stock. Long gone are a majority of 69 chevelles and SS nova's sporting 454cc engines at 400hp. Women were not attracted to this type of car as they were not easy to drive to begin with, requiring strength and endurance to drive daily to work, due to double spring clutches, all drum brakes with NO booster for enhanced braking. This all changed with main stream sub compact cars and WAY more women are driving now.
So it no wonder that insurance companies woke up and lobbied government.
This should be done in other areas. Men are increasingly willing to help in house hold chores, be more "pink", we stepped up to the plate of the 1960's feminist call, and now the pendulum has gone way over to the other side. This decision about insurance is representative of a return to a somewhat middle ground.
As more companies and men in general will come to terms that we are being had by decades old ideas that no longer represent today's society in general.

Re: Men to pay same for car insurance after European ruling
It's extremely unfortunate that the battle has come to this. After years, maybe even decades, the battle for equality has made a single victory.
As I have gone into my teenage years, I am yet to complete another rite of passage: getting my drivers license. I have taken precious time out of my days and nights to gradually learn driving. Yet after months of preparation, my dad's told me that I won't be able to get my license until I'm 18 since the cost will be far too high for him and my family. And it's honestly sad and disheartening to see that while you have to wait, girls whose families make just as much as yours are getting behind the wheel and are allowed to have more freedom.
The legal age for a driver's license is 16 in Ohio, and I have to wait two years longer than women who, in my opinion, are more recless and dangerous than I. What a sad and hypocritical place this world has become.

Re: Men to pay same for car insurance after European ruling
Just like to add I've been driving since Jan 2007 and so far I've never had a single penalty point, insurance claim, speeding ticket or parking fine.
Before the equal insurance came into effect it pissed me well off finding out that women around the same age as me were still paying less than me for car insurance even though they had had accidents and made claims. Again and again I would see female drivers driving like complete idiots and I would think to myself they prob pay half than what I do for insurance just for being female.
It's wrong to label one gender as better drivers than the other and use that as a factor for premiums. Premiums should be on an individual basis.
And like others have pointed out the fact women have less accidents than men as a whole doesn't mean they are better drivers when you consider men drive a lot more than women as a whole.
For example if person A drives 10 miles and has 2 accidents and person B drives 10,000 miles and has 3 accidents that means person A is the better driver? Or does it?

Re: Men to pay same for car insurance after European ruling
I said previously on this issue:
That said, for every isolated example such as this where equality laws actually impact upon women (rather than just solely benefiting from), there are still many more which favour them and detrimentally affect men.
And, until the madness of these EU-inspired equality laws similarly affects ALL women, across-the-board, they'll never truly 'get it' nor will anything ever change positively for men.
Ultimately, regardless of 'EU laws,' which aren't structured in common law or relate to constitution, because they don't apply to the sovereign soul, it doesn't have a lawful mandate as defined by the people.
Aside from the gender (and lawful) issue, car insurance providers will press on as before making handsome profits. I caught a programme on ITV by money guru Martin Lewis, who essentially outlined how those procrastinating policyholders who didn't shop around.... could be fleeced by not creating a better deal for themselves. At the end of show, men and women, most had knocked off a considerable amount of their car insurance (up to 50%).

Re: Men to pay same for car insurance after European ruling
My car insurance quote before the gender ruling came into effect was £584, the year later after the ruling it was £310 (both quotes including breakdown cover).
I was well pleased. That was with an extra year no claims but I don't think it would have dropped that much without the ruling.

Yes, mine has dropped considerably to a more affordable figure as well.
Ahh, good ol' equality - continuing to upset feminists and please men.►My blog / Your Blog
