Can you blame him, many countries, including the UK have failed dismally in affording him his basic 'lawful' rights, before the vengeful behemoth that is the American government.

The credibility of his accusers has been questioned before on the forum.

One of Julian Assange's sex offense accusers is a radical feminist bent on revenge

Re: julian assange pleads for asylum in ecuador

It was obvious what was going to happen. On his TV show "The World Tomorrow" he has a two part show called cypher punks where he interviewed his "mates". It was obvious to me that that this was a "farewell" party (complete with cigars and whiskey!). On the Russia Today news site I wrote that I reckon Julian will defect to Russia - so I was not shocked to see that he is seeking asylum, but I was surprized he chose Equador.

He would have been a complete idiot to allow himself to be deported !

Maybe he fancies magherittas and senoriettas, but its a small country that I fear may deport him one day.

Anyway, lets hope he is safe (at least for now) and can continue to fight to make the world a better and more transparent place.

And here's a good reason why we cannot trust governments and we need people like Assange: Japan sat on Fukushima data as people 'fled to radioactive zones' — RT

Assange has obviously done his homework and seeking asylum in Ecuador has reason in his outward madness.

My legal understanding is that, if accepted, he will have diplomatic status within the embassy, international airports and flights, but the transit between embassy and airport might be fraught with legal technicalities as to jurisdiction (where American agencies or it's affiliates might seek to snatch him).

He can't be arrested as a diplomat in an international airport, it's just the journey from the embassy to there, where the jurisprudence weakness/strength - perspective arises.

If he stays in an emabssy car "technically" he is safe once her gets out he could be arrested. If Equador gave him citizenship and diplomatic status then he would be safe, but I hardly see that happening.

Such "embassy asylums" usually dont work out well - he will hole up in the embassy for a couple of weeks while he "negotiates" with the British state. The state of affairs gets the UK very negavtive publicity. Perhaps the UK courts will say he can walk free and let Swedish prosecutors come to the UK to speak to him. Either way I think he made the wrong move - he would have been better off going to Lowestoft port (near where he was under house arrest) and jumping on a Russia cargo ship and then from Moscow seeking asylum in Equador.

Its going to be a very interesting case and let hope his supporters rally and keep the media spotlight on the sucmbags in the UK state for their fascist style policies against a man who has only exposed the truth

Earlier on, I was looking at what frameworks of law which are relevant to Assange's position. He's currently on bail conditions imposed upon him by the UK High Court. It seems the Americans need to secure him at any cost, which has discounted any fair lawful mechanisms being considered at this point.

One of the most telling things about this affair is the way they've chosen to 'get' him.

Charges of espionage or libel would not hold water since the leaked material is simply accurate reporting of what people said and did.

So they have to fall back on that tired old cover-all, 'sex crimes' - I'm quoting BBC world. Simply reducing the whole complex matter to a "he said - she said" means he's scuppered. Guilty until proven innocent. And how could he do that in Sweden of all places?

I remember a news item several years ago which outlined prominent newspapers like the Washington Post and Bild.de (German) publishing the same supposedly 'treasonous' material before Assange did on WikiLeaks. And, how is it criminal to make known war criminals etc?

Which is why as you stated, they need the pretext of rape allegations to ensnare him initially, before he's permanently entangled by the web of American intelligence.

Here's a story uncovered by Dominic Raab MP, a supporter of men, which highlights just how compliant Britain and EU countries (like Sweden) are to the U.S. regarding extradition, and how it's rarely reciprocated.

Indeed and protests have flared up outside with people being arrested. Ahhhh good ole mets, kettle protestors, beat and trample disabled people from horses and then only air them defending themselves by throwing stones to avoid being hurt further.

Britain has no right to set foot in the embassy at all. Maybe bullies like the UK should be dealt with sternly.

Anyway the whole story seems to have changed. Originally, many months ago, the claim was it was rape as the sex was consensual by use of a condom, but then the condom broke midway through.

Now it is two women who have been sexually molested. Come on sweden, at least be consistent and stick with the same lie. Do you really think we all have such a poor memory?
