A newly-wed bride has been accused of faking cancer to trick people into paying for her dream wedding.
Jessica Vega even fooled her husband to-be that she was dying from leukaemia.
Friends donated everything from her dress to a two week honeymoon in the Caribbean so that the 23-year-old could enjoy a happy start to married life before succumbing to the disease.
But now Vega's husband of less than four months Michael O'Connell has claimed the cancer was a sham and has filed for divorce in their U.S. hometown.
O'Connell,23, said he was duped into marrying Vega after she showed him a letter from her doctors with the grim diagnosis about her leukaemia.
Vega is alleged to have told her fiancée that she had less than a year to live.
The couple, who have a year-old daughter called Lily, were married on May 2 in front of more than 60 friends and family.
Their heart-warming story had featured in a newspaper article in their home town of Newburgh, about 75 miles from New York city.
Jessica, a chef, claimed in the article that she had acute myeloid leukaemia but was determined to marry.
She told the newspaper that she could not bring herself to show O'Connell the letter from her doctor that revealed the diagnosis.
Readers touched by Vega's determination to marry sent in money while others donated gifts to help the couple have a happy start to their married life.
Two tickets to the island of Aruba were donated for their honeymoon while they stayed in a villa that had been donated.
But within weeks of returning O'Connell, a construction worker, noticed that his wife's illness was not getting worse.
He said the letter from her doctor with the terminal diagnosis was faked.
O'Connell said he telephoned the doctor's office to inquire about his wife's illness only to be told she was not a patient at the surgery.~ Support Fathers & Families for Father's Rights and Equal Parenting! Go to fathersandfamilies.org ~

Re: Bride who claimed she was dying of cancer accused of lying to get dream wedding
That is just disgusting to me. I've had a grandmother that died from cancer. Just makes me sick that someone would mock dying victims, just to get a wedding.
I'm glad the guy is divorcing her.
She is selfish, disgusting and doesn't deserve anyone.

Scorn and mockery towards men in need is one of the reasons feminism is dying as we speak!.

Is this guy a complete moron, or what?Vega and O'Connell have since reunited and had a second child. Mr O'Connell, who at one time gave evidence to prosecute his wife, said that although she should repay those who were scammed, his wife needs mental health care and not prison.

A fool and his money are soon parted. And in this case, the fool gets back together with the thief.
Hmmmmmmm......................
Contrary to what some feminists say, male violence is not "acceptable", "sanctioned" or "institutionalized" behavior. The fact that it is even considered criminal is proof of that.

Re: Bride 'tricked fiancé into marrying her by telling him she was dying of cancer.
I read of this the other day, but had no idea he had been tricked into marrying her... no mention of that was given in the newspaper I'd read - it only listed that she'd lied to garner money for the wedding and was from NY.
Strange that the paper chose to not mention he'd been tricked into marrying her...►My blog / Your Blog

Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."
