As if we didn't know!
Men want beauty, women want cash, but men are less discriminatory.
The key to falling in love: Men seek beauty, women seek cash
By ARTHUR MARTIN Last updated at 10:15am on 4th September 2007
Falling in love: Soul mates or deal makers?
Being soul mates has often been considered the benchmark for any budding relationship.
In fact, looking for love is a much simpler process.
New scientific research has reached the conclusion which many of us have long suspected - that men are attracted by beauty while women focus on a partner's wealth.
Data taken from a speed-dating study reveals that when it comes to the rules of attraction people behave like stereotypical Neanderthals.
It found that men would try to entice the most attractive woman they met, although they accepted they would make do with someone who falls somewhat short of their dream.
Meanwhile women will try and find a man whose wealth is on the same level as their own perceived attractiveness.
This is the conclusion of research published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by a group of scientist from different universities across the globe.
One those is Peter Todd, of Indiana University, who said the problem with earlier work that suggested that likes attract was that the scientists had simply asked people about preferences.
After the speeding dating sessions, during which each potential pair met briefly and recorded their interest in dating one another again, the researchers compared what they said they were looking for with what they actually did.
In their own assessments, subjects claimed their ideal mate would be similar to themselves. However, in the dating sessions involving 46 people in Munich, men went for looks while women went for money.
"We found that what men and women say they want is not the same as what they actually choose," Mr Todd said.
"The actual choices made by men and women accord with a rough evolutionary-predicted trade-off, in this case between men's overall mate value and women's self-perceived attractiveness.
He said women dominate this trade-off because "men are much less discriminating". Mr Todd added: "Ancestral individuals who made their mate choices in this way - women trading off their attractiveness for higher quality men and men looking for any attractive women who would accept them - would have had an evolutionary advantage in greater numbers of successful offspring."

Re: Women want cash
If I were single, I would want:
A guy in his mid 50s to late 60s
distinguished (should have silver hair)
like to ride bikes
likes Shakespeare, classical music, WW 2 history, genealogy
believer in men's rights
non-/anti-smoker
conservative/pro-life/anti-feminist
Notice that money is not even one of my requirements?
I think the money issue is more of a younger female thing.
Hell, as long as a guy can put food on the table and pay the property taxes, I don't care. He does not need to be rich, or even upper middle class. But he MUST fit the requirements listed above!"I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Re: Women want cash
Well, when I was single I dated a few guys my age, but I found them very immature (no offense, I'm sure guys on this board are NOT immature!), but I preferred older men because we had more in common in a lot of ways (we both liked classic movies from the 1950s on back, I loved to hear stories of WW2, etc) I dated guys in their 50s when I was in my early 20s, people thought it was nuts but it worked for me. And no, they weren't rich.

I met an older gent at a picnic yesterday that, if he were single and I were single, I would have taken off after in a heartbeat. He was 67, a retired HISTORY (!) teacher, loved the History Channel AND Spike, a Shakespeare enthusiast, Jewish, good-looking, silver hair, athletic (another big plus for me), and he owns four bikes! He had this habit which I absolutely adored, of answering questions with quotes from the Bard. I was smitten!! (what a shame he has a wife and I have a husband!)
My husband is actually too young for my tastes, since he's only 2 years older than me. But he has what I call an "old mind", meaning he is into stuff from older generations, like I am."I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Re: Women want cash
Are you sure? I went ahead and put some silver dye in my hair on the sides and I got to tell you I'm looking pretty sweet!

Seriously though, I'll err blend it in later. The truth is that men are looking all over the world for women who aren't quote unquote feminists. Women, looking to make themselves more attractive to men, could go get a manicure and a pedicure and some nice shoes and a new dress, spending a vast fortune, OR, they could drop feminism at the curb, (free of charge), and get the kind of makeover money can't buy.
Maybe if I keep rubbing the towel through my hair...

Re: Women want cash
If those women had any BRAINS, they'd want a SMALLER house because its less to clean! If I were single and childless, I'd prefer an apartment because that's definitely a lot less to clean.
And SP, where did you find silver hair dye?? My husband has been looking for it because he wants to make his beard all silver (right now, its blond mixed with silver.) I just think men with at least some silver in their beard (and esp. at their temples) looks very sexy and distinguished. Pierce Brosnan is SO much hotter now that he has some silver at the temples, and I slobber over Sean Connery now, but would never have looked at him twice when he was younger, as Bond.
As for pedicures, manicures, etc etc....never had one in my life. My husband jokes that unlike a lot of women, I save him a lot of $$ because I'm not into all of that....I'm strictly a sneakers, backpack, cycling type of person. No makeup, no fancy hairdos....I always saw it as a waste. Only time I did all that was when I had to, for a job I had (some brief modeling when I was younger.) And if people don't like it, tough. I'm myself, not what others expect me to be.Last edited by IronLady; 4th-September-2007 at 08:35 PM.

Re: Women want cash
If women were soooo discerning about partners why do women initiate up to 80% of divorces and also claim that 39% would not marry the same partner if the option ever came up !!!!He said women dominate this trade-off because "men are much less discriminating". Mr Todd added: "Ancestral individuals who made their mate choices in this way - women trading off their attractiveness for higher quality men and men looking for any attractive women who would accept them - would have had an evolutionary advantage in greater numbers of successful offspring."
Just another bit of feminised drivel. I wonder how he would explain the known fact that women prefer relationships with anyone they believe they can change ?
Badasses and thugs, drug pushers etc...
Women are not discerning at all, load of rubbish. Wave a million dollars in front of one of them and they will marry anything or anyone just to get their hands on it...Last edited by christianj; 5th-September-2007 at 10:25 AM.
